Noob questions - coming right up ^^
Hello,
now, I'm sure that somewhere in the forums the answers to these questions might exist, but besides taking ages, they might not be entirely accurate. So here goes:
1. What WHP can I expect from a custom tune using only 3" TBE with hi-flow cat and a panel filter in an Evo IX?
2. What is the general accepted formula for tranmission loss for an Evo IX? For instance, what power at flywheel would something like 320 WHP mean?
3. Compared to the setup at point 1 (panel filter + 3" TBE) what gains I could get if I add an Injen CAI + tubing?
4. Is a boost controller needed/useful? I have my eyes on the HKS EVC. What can I expect from using one, assuming I would like to run things safely enough ^^
5. When is the Walbro fuel pump needed? By "when" I mean above what power?
6. When (the same "when" as above) is recommended changing the spark plugs? What is the recommended brand?
7. Finally, will a lighter flywheel make a difference? I guess it does, but will the engine brake be usable after? ^^ Any brand to recommend for a clutch + light flywheel kit?
Thanks a whole bunch! ^^

you're going to get different opinions but here's mine for what it's worth.
Hello,
now, I'm sure that somewhere in the forums the answers to these questions might exist, but besides taking ages, they might not be entirely accurate. So here goes:
1. What WHP can I expect from a custom tune using only 3" TBE with hi-flow cat and a panel filter in an Evo IX? depends on the tuner but I usually shoot for ~ 23psi on 93 octane for a good balance between consistency/powerful/safety and ~ 320awhp
2. What is the general accepted formula for tranmission loss for an Evo IX? For instance, what power at flywheel would something like 320 WHP mean? nobody cares about bhp on evom
3. Compared to the setup at point 1 (panel filter + 3" TBE) what gains I could get if I add an Injen CAI + tubing? likely very little
4. Is a boost controller needed/useful? I have my eyes on the HKS EVC. What can I expect from using one, assuming I would like to run things safely enough ^^ yes I recommend a good mbc or ebc to raise the boost in conjunction with a good tune
5. When is the Walbro fuel pump needed? By "when" I mean above what power? the ix pump is better and the viii and you can go pretty far with it but honestly it's only 80 bucks and you're going to need it eventually anyway when you do cams/injectors/turbo, do yourself a favor and get one
6. When (the same "when" as above) is recommended changing the spark plugs? What is the recommended brand? stock plugs and when it starts sputtering
7. Finally, will a lighter flywheel make a difference? I guess it does, but will the engine brake be usable after? ^^ Any brand to recommend for a clutch + light flywheel kit? light weight flywheels make it harder to launch, I don't recommend them for drag racers and it might be annoying for daily drivers too. After the stock clutch gave up ~ 365awhp, The exedy twin disc HD was fine up to ~500awhp and it finally wore out due to normal wear and tear. Then I went to the Tilton twin carbon and use it currently ~600awhp
Thanks a whole bunch! ^^
