I live in cali and want to get a test pipe but i dont know what the ticket is for the emissions if you get caught. ive heard it could be up to $1k?! but then ive heard its just a 25 fix it ticket. i have a couple friends who run them and havent been caught but still

Seriously, the chances of being caught without a cat are very slim. Think about it from a cop's perspective; I'm pulling over a complete stranger, I'm probably pissing him off, and I'm not 100% sure he is not armed. Am I really going to take my eyes off him and get down on my hands and knees? No.
You are more likely to be sited for a shinny blow off valve, an open cone filter, or a big shinny exhaust. From there you will ordered to see the referee to let them figure out if you have a cat on there or not. Oh, but you have to make an appointment with plenty of time to get your stock stuff back on. It's a joke.
