usb to serial adaptor for tactrix cable?
My question is do I even need the usb to serial adaptor like mellontuning's website explains if my laptop does not have a serial port? the tactrix cable has a usb connection. I just dont know if it will still transfer data correctly or not.
The Tactrix cable has an OBDII connector (and, for some Tactrix cables, a reflash connector) on one end, and a USB connector on the other end that just connects to a regular USB port on your PC.
You do not need a USB-serial adapter to get EvoScan to work.
USB-serial adapter is useful if you have an AFR unit that provides a serial data stream output, so you can log AFR using the software that came with the AFR unit, or to import your AFR data into EvoScan for logging alongside the other data that's logged via the OBDII port.

Reread Mellon's site. The adapter may be necessary for using a wideband.

correct, the lc-1 wb02 has a serial output and most modern laptops only have usb, hence the need for a serial to usb adapter cable. I'm hopeful that the LC-1/LM-1 will some day come with a usb cable but I guess there's lots of dyno operators with ancient laptops this would post a problem for.
