alternator secret fuse?

battery hooked up backwards for 30 seconds at max, lights came on. smoke came from underneath bonnet, checked everything it seems fine. mostly everything works.

A-pillar gauges dont work. and the car doesnt charge, it drive off the battery then dies when battery dies. is my alternator f*cked? i heard there an alternator fuse/link. but the one in the fuse box seems fine.

what do i do besides dealership? (live in Canada, no one really knows these cars)

The alternator fuseable link is built into the positive battery terminal.

check to make sure you didnt fry the cable that tells the alt to charge, they dont charge at a constant rate they go on and off if you didnt know, anyway i arced my positive cable to the frame and it fryed that wire and caused my alt not to work.

yea haha... especially being a 2nd year electrician and even seeing the schematic for the charging system haha.

a-pillar doesnt work though... boost and EGT gauges, and a a/f ratio gauge on my steering column doesnt work now. minor problems, just glad she's charging. thanks

The alternator is not getting charged currently, there is supposed to be a 100A fuse in that location. Replace immediately or you will be forced into replacing the alternator ($300+install if you cannot do it yourself)
