i am partial to evoscan for datalogging and ecuflash for flashing the car.. however beware but with such a general question i must add... do your homework before you even think about flashing the car.. would hate for you to cause any damage

Datalogging was the word I was looking for. I don't trust myself to do my own tuning.

I have a similar question...

I am quite a seasoned tuner for Cobalts and GM cars.... but the Evo is one I have not touched.

I am used to a laptop based scanner/flasher/datalogger type system?

What is the best, easiest to use?

i find that evoscan and ecu flash is easy to use.. i guess i had to learn that way because at the time i was not looking for insane power enough to need a standalone system. nor did i have the cash flow.. if you are familiar with the mechanics of tuning and what you are doing.. try purchasing evoscan and getting some logging in. and also download ecu flash its a good program to use for open source tuning and flashing your car. evoscan is only 25 bucks and imo its well worth it.. and ecu flash is free

I have been using Cobb and I have been looking at moving into evoscan and ecu flash. The only thing I am unsure is if I would be able to use my ecu dongle/cable rather than a tactrix cable. I guess I should try it and see but wonder...

I looked up Evoscan as thats what a buddy told me to look into... and I about **** when I saw the price...

I will get it anyway whether I am able to pick up an evo or not. I have been tuning Cobalts, and most GM vehicles for 4 years now.... pretty much any cobalt in the NC area has had my touch on it.

But HPTuners is like 500-600 bucks for the software and $100 per vehicle to license the vin.

I have used cobb system for my buddies subie to flash his car. however i am not sure it you can use it with ecuflash. the tactrix cable has a second plug that must be connected in addition to the obdII.. so im going to say you prob cant.. give it a shot though wouldnt hurt to try

I have not tried it yet but will do so. The Cobb tuner "dongle" also has a second plug like I have seen for the Tactrix cable. Well that is at least for the EVO VII - IX and that is why according to Cobb they have discontinued support for those specific models (EVO X is still supported).

http://cobbtuning.com/products/?id=3349 --> "EVO 8 & 9 AccessPORT Discontinued

The AccessPORT for the EVO 8 and EVO 9 require a specialized OBD-II dongle that is not used in any other application. It is no longer cost effective for COBB Tuning to continue to manufacture this specialized dongle at the current EVO 8 and EVO 9 AccessPORT sales volumes."
