Accessport still worth it?
Chaps... I'm just getting ready to take the car in for tuning. I spoke with one of the local shops in the area and he was incredibly friendly, and helpful.
His shop uses Accessport for tuning. I know relatively little about this setup, as I've been doing plenty of reading on the more "user friendly" self tuning programs (if you will). I DO know though that it has been "discontinued" for the Evos.
My question is... is it still worth getting my car tuned with Accessport? Or should I look elsewhere? It seems that its sort of a dieing program...

It isn't that its dieing. Some people like it a lot more. But with our cars, and the open source ECU tuning, combined with the tephra mods... in my opinion... it just isn't as powerful a tuning tool.
Though it should be noted... I really have no idea what I'm talking about.

Someone familiar with tuning a COBB should still be able to get good results from an AP2.
i have a cobb on my sti, and for a plug and play application it is great if you change your tunes a lot or don't have a tuner near by like myself, with that said next time around I would probably save my $600 for the accessport and just use it for a opensource tune if I am near a good tuner.

Depends on your needs. If you're just a plug-it-in and leave it kind of guy, then the AP will fit the bill. If you want to do a large degree of tuning and customization, there are better options out there. You can pick up a second-hand unit for cheap and it will definitely give your car a kick in the pants.
I have AP2 on my STi it works great but only have 2 basic map you can play around with. Good thing about it you can ask your tuner to do multi maps and install into the ap unit, once you on your own you can switch the map on yourself also monitor the boost psi, air ratio... etc
I have a map for track and a map for daily use. Im thinking about getting one for my EVO but since evo are more easier to tune ill probably get a friend to tune it for me on a open source road tune.

No.
It has been End of Lifed by Cobb, there is WAY COOLER stuff to be done in Open Source. I cant even download the software to tune it anymore and we are a Cobb Pro tuner facility.

I had the accessport on my stock X and I was really impressed by throttle response and power increases I definitely think it is still worth it.. I bought mine used for 350$
