Choosing camshafts

272 IN / 264 ? whats good about running different ones? 272 as in and 264 as exhaust.

and also buddyclub 272 IN / 264 are they any good?

i've got springs, retainers, camgears just trying to choose a set of nice cams. i have currently got a GT3037 turbo with external gate. and looking at getting forged pistons and rods(standard sizes) aswell..

i want something with abit of lumpyness =P but not too rough on the street.. wanting something thats good throughout the whole rev range.(especially before boost kicks as full boost kicks at 4100rpm..

thanks guys..

^^ Those 280's will be lopey at idle and make great power.

I just tuned my friends EVO IX after he put in some kelford 272's. They have very nice idle with a decent lope to them. The car drives beautifully with them though, they are great cams.

This will be my first time running 280s and I fear that it is going to push my desired powerband too far to the right for my tastes.

Seems the 272's are great for dd cams... Im all about driveability.

I love my GSC S2

I'm actually getting to the point were I'm a little worried about too much torque too soon.

What other mods do you have, stock turbo?

You cannot go wrong with the following:

1. BF272s
2. GSC S2s
3. Kelford 272s

If you wanna make gret top end power and less diveability go whit 272 272...

wanna have better driveability on the streets and good and a good smooth powerband . go whit the 264 264,, dont mix 264 and 272 !!!

I rekkomend the 264 in first place , if your se the powerpaband starts falling en the car wont hold on all the way to the top end , change to the 272 272 ,,

buts it all komes down how mutch power you wanna make ,

Top end power is a subjective statement as it depends on the turbo you are running. Can you have great top end power with the stock VIII turbo? Yes, when you compare it to other stock VIII turbos. The questions are, "what turbo are you running" and "how do you use your EVO"? There are people running 272s with stock turbos without eliminating low end grunt. Yes, this is easier to achieve with smaller duration cams.

These days, I have not seen too many people running different duration cams.

the S1's are 268/268 that's in between 264 and 272. they are a great cam for dd on stock/green or even red sized turbo's.

I never thought of this. I ran the GSC 264s in my old EVO and the low end grunt they made was outstanding and the stock VIII turbo really functioned well with them. I suspect that a back-to-back S1 vs. S2 test would be hard to come by. So many people simply run cams based on what everyone else purchases with no regards to turbo choice or intended use.

Personally, my end goals are to run a 2.3L with my EF3 and based on the shift points of the 2.3L being roughly 8,200-8,500 RPM, I know that a 268 cam would work just fine and give me even greater torque than the 272.
