to tune or not to tune?

So ive had my car for about 85k miles now and ive never had any tuning done to it. I have a bunch of basic bolt ons, 2.75in cat back, 2.75in downpipe and injen intake with intercooler piping. My question is, is it worth getting a tune done? i plan to run stock injectors and a stock fuel pump but im not really aiming for power gains, more for fuel efficiency. Ive never given tuning any thought but my brother is running the exact same set up i am and he put down 278 hp and he gets better gas mileage than i do which is the only reason im starting to give it serious thought. Please give e your guy's input. Is it worth getting done? Will a mild tune shorten the life of my car? Can i expect any power gains at all? I live in cali and premium is 91 octane and i know the car was made for 93 will a tune be better because of this?

It can never hurt to tune it. It will not shorten the life of the engine, that all depends on how you drive the car. You sound like you're not interested in pushing the engine at all, just know that stock injectors/fuel pump can limit your tune potential. If you're just shooting to fine tune things as they are, it definitely won't hurt at all. You can definitely expect some gains with any tune.

You will notice no negative side effects from a properly tuned car, better mpg, more power and if done right durability will not be an issue.

Agreed. For what you're looking to do a good tune will let your current setup run more efficiently, not giving you a ton more power but getting you the increased MPG I think you're ultimately looking for.

it's a no brainer as long as you have a good tuner.

Absolutely get it tuned, I would even say that not being tuned with those mods is a greater risk to your motor than being tuned. And yes you will most likely see power as well as fuel economy gains if done properly.

Not tuning the car after putting "basic bolt ons" is like wasteing money on things and not getting any bennifet for anything that you put on.

Even if your car didnt have the bolt ons it would still be a great idea to tune as long as you leave it up to someone that knows what there doing, the stock tune is very rich and you will definitely see some mileage improvement and definitely some more power.
