Help

My car is a JDM Evo 9
I recently installed an Ams 2.3rr block mated to a built Evo 9 head with hks 272 cams, stock intake manifold. Stock ported exhaust manifold. Fp dbb black.
Stock injectors just to get the car started.
With the stock ecu the car starts immediately with no trouble.
I installed the haltech Evo 9 platinum pro plug in ecu and the car refuses to start, but as soon as the ignition is turned to the on position the intercooler water spray immediately comes on.
This does not happen with the stock ecu.
We then installed the haltech in a friends bone stock JDM Evo 9 and the car starts immediately and the intercooler spray does not turn on automatically.
We are baffled as to what could be causing this.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks.

check all the grounds, 99% of the time , its a bad or missing ground.when you have a funky problem like this.

Why would you go and spend the money on a haltech when you can do so much with the stock ecu? Stick to what works.

There are no big maps for the JDM Evo 9 ECU, so I went with the Haltech for the extra resolution.

stock ecu lacks a lot that a good standalone offers.

I understand that, but honestly unnecessary. People make 800 up to 1000 hp on stock ecu's? I am not tring to bash or nothing I just think there are other mods that could have helped you better rather then spending it on a haltech.

for me, safety is the reason im going standalone, not for power. both failures on this car would have never happened with a properly setup proefi ecu. when im done, i can run any mix of e85 to pump gas i want, fill up on the fly and not have to worry about it. if a fuel pump fails, it can prevent damage. if i lose oil pressure, it can prevent damage. to me, $2,500 worth of ecu is worth it to protect $10k+ of engine.
