How to prevent a waterlocked engine????

I just bought my second evo finally!!!

The previous owner had issues where water got in through the cold air intake and bent a rod and a few valves

After he gave the engine a complete overhaul and sold it to me he told me to buy a K&N Air Filter Wrap so it doesn't happen to me.

Im considering this but was also wondering what other options there are to do the same if not better.

Thx!!!!

Switch from a cold air intake to a short ram intake

Or

Don't drive through surface water.

If you're going to use a cold air intake use the bypass valve made by AEM. Or as stated above just use a short ram intake if you think you might be driving your evo like a boat

not driving in super high water or anything like that.

just dont want to spend $6000 like the previous owner did by just driving it in "houston monsoon weather"

also didn't the aem bypass valve get damaged by the turbo or vice versa even if installed properly? thot i read that somewhere

he also didn't have the heat shield cover on the heat vent. Would that matter? (its on now)

Ok dum dum. I told you exactly how to fix it. Buy a 3in pipe. Cut it to fit the catch can. Or get a piece of aluminum sheet metal and get some self tapping screws and screw it into the louvered hood shield at an angle that would facilitate good channeling for ambient water. I have spoken. That is all

This.

My recommendation would be to just go short ram.

This is operating under the assumption the water is coming in through the hood vent. its not. Its being sucked up through the CAI, acting as a straw.

Only advise I can give to you is this: post a picture of your current setup/intake so we can see how it is and if there's something to be done about it, we will take it from there

dont put it close to the ground and if you have to have it there and then put a shield plate to put under it to shield it from the water, also just dont drive a wet conditions, simple solution.

Just get a stock intake or a short ram intake. If you're worried, especially with the monsoon weather I would not be running a CAI. Just switch it up, plain and simple.

just get the stock air box and be done with it. It flows really well, and helps when/if the cops ask you to pop the hood.
