FIC 1100 Hi-Z

So Im helping a buddy tune his car and I was wondering if anyone thought this was weird.

I started out by loading in a base setting for his injectors. This setting was found on here as a base setting a lot of people ran. I want to say it was set around 935cc with according latencies. Anyways, I started to tune his car and I see his fuel trims were maxed out negative. So from my experience I started to take away fuel by using the global to get the idle fuel trim closer to zero. I got it to around -3% for idle and my global was 1460ish cc. Now we went and logged cruise and it ended up being around -7 while cruising. I then added around 3% latency and the car ended up around 0-1% for idle and around -1 to -2 % at cruise.

Why would his global be 32.7% larger than the injectors itself? The only thing I can think of is that he bought the car without knowing he has 4 walbros in his tank and a welded shut afpr.

The car was running a lot better so we started to do some low rpm wide open pulls. Everything seems fine. I guess its just confusing me. What are your thoughts?

Your injector scaling should never be above the actual injector size. If it runs right like that you have other issues.

Wow so helpful thank you for stating the obvious. Im asking what would cause it other than high fuel pressure.

You should be adjusting latency not scaling. 1460 scaling with 1100cc fic's will result in a very lean condition once you run out of resolution in the fuel map, which you certainly will.

I adjust the scaling with WOT and use the latencies like Tom says for trims.

Are you running SD or MAF?

Glad Tom posted here and I'm sure he will be a good resource since he has vast tuning knowledge.
Did you check out the data that was provided on the injector data sheet that came with your injectors? You may need to make some small adjustments to that for your particular setup but I wouldn't expect things to stray too far from there for both injector scaling and latency values.

Thanks FIC. I came to an understanding of why its doing what its doing. If that makes sense. Yay for electrical issues.

Good, glad you were able to sort things out! The 1100s are a really nice injector so I figured something else had to be off.
If you need help with anything else let us know.

Thanks Bryan. I have always been a fic guy too! Nothing will change, haha. Well maybe in my dsm. My fic 1050s are getting maxed out on e-85

Ok im going to comment now. There are no electrical issues with this vehicle. This was actually a car my other friend Brian (cursedsm) had me tuning for his friend on the side due to another tuner not getting anything done.

When the vehicle was at Brian's house, we attempted to tune it, but it was very messed up and would not idle. The vehicle had a bent valve from a used head the owner purchased and put on used after further inspection. Weather it was like that before the installation of the new head or not, i do not know. The original rom that came off this vehicle was a mess, had forced the vehicle in open loop entirely, and had the immobilizer disabled. I still have this rom.

Brian did all the mechanical work free for this guy to my knowledge. "sorry I forget his name". So eventually they got the head fixed, reinstalled it, then there were further issues. Turns out the cam sensor was flipped 180 deg, so i imagine they ended up fixing all of that a few weeks later.

Somehow lancerrally45 got to attempting to try to tune the car since he lives in the same apt complex as the owner and offered to help. Scaling 1100cc injectors to 1460, and also just by reading his first post its clear he should not be trying to tune his friends evo until he further reads more tutorials and gains more knowledge regarding the platform first.

The car will be retuned by me like it should have been initially from the beginning but due to mechanical faults mentioned above that was postponed.

There are no electrical issues with this car, the vehicle does not have an "AFPR" like noted in the first post, or "4 walbros". the owner just told this guy (his friend i guess) that he can not continue to touch the vehicle any further due to his lack of knowledge towards the ecu and the mods his vehicle has require special attention.

The vehicle has a factory stock FPR, and walbro 255 in tank pump. Nothing is special about this evo, except for the multiple mechanical faults it had.

To the OP, id suggest reading basic tutorials and getting a better understanding on how to tune the car before experimenting on other peoples evos.

Before you can even think about scaling this vehicle at idle you need to adjust trim crossover tables or the larger cams it has creating higher airflow at idle along with the aftermarket intake pipe will not even allow you to use the proper fuel trim at idle.

There is a lot of stuff you need to know in order to properly tune a modified evo like this. It isn't just a push button type deal like dsmlink and you're on your way. there are multiple tables not defined that must be manually implemented in the XML file in order for you to view the data and make proper changes / adjustments.

That said, if you figured out dsmlink, then you'll be fine with the stock ecu, just be aware they are nothing alike, and you have a lot of reading ahead of you before you will ever be able to properly tune an evo correctly.

We had our words, and ill leave it at that. Unless you're open to learn and accept acceptance that you do not know how to tune the stock ecu correctly at this time you will be fine, but if you remain ignorant and think you know it all, then you will have problems like anything else in life.

I'm sure you will be fine, and you have your own personal evo to experiment with yourself which is a big plus.

good luck with your future tuning, and no hard feelings.

Thanks I appreciate the kind words. I actually sold the owner of this car the 1100cc's in it. Keep up the good work guys!

Also Brandon, i think that is your name / proper spelling, if not i apologize. But here is a good reference for tuning tutorials on the stock ecu at the top of this page https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...ead-links.html

Everyone starts new, and works their way up. we all have. you clearly will as well. Having prior tuning knowledge with ecmlink/dsmlink is a major plus. This community is just as helpful as the community on ecmlink forums as well, so don't be afraid to ask in the ecuflash section if you have questions.

But here is a tip for you. mostly every question or answer you need to ask or need will be already answered on this forum and found. If you dig deep there are tons of good posts throughout this forum and they go back as far as 2004 or earlier.

Ok well since it has been brought up to my attention I will chime in. A little back story about all this. Yes Chris came to me with his evo he got from AWDMOTORSPORTS he aquired when he was over in Iraq, wanted to hang out some we became pretty good friends and one day we noticed his turbo was shot. I wanted to know what was all on this vehicle and know some history being he wanted to start modding it, and of course they BLEW him off and told him "Don't worry about it just drive it. They told him it made over 400 whp on their dyno and when we made some pulls the car was a joke. VD barely made 250 whp on the mustang dyno with us both in it. So after all this and we finally saw the turbo die, he got a beautiful ef3 from a memeber on here, but yet another buddy of ours wanted to sell a head that was done up. Chris being antsy a little decided he wanted the head too. Ok cool fine and dandy he got some really nice pieces for his car and we will make it work. So to make a long story short, we ripped the car appart, got the head on, timing dead nuts spun the motor a bunch of times everything lines up everything is great. Get the car all back together and noticed something isn't right.

The car seemed to be down a cylinder. OK thats odd wtf is going on. Did some trouble shooting with Chris called some buddies and the thing we should have done first we didn't. Checked cylinder pressure sure as **** #4 for whatever reason was completely dead. Ok great he just spent all this cash on these nice parts and now he has a wacked cylinder. We hand cranked the motor for quite a while with no problems, once it was all back together first thing we noticed was it didn't sound right.

Moving on with my book here we ripped it appart and looked at the timing again, dead nuts. So idk what happened but #4 was toast. We got everything fixed redid everything yet again, got the car all back together and car wont start now. Tom at this point had given us a couple base maps to start, but something on the car wasn't right. By this time I started a new job, I worked 75 to 80 hours a week, and when I had time after work or on my only day off Chris was here working on the car. So we tinkered with it but being I worked so many hours it got to be a stand still.

So one Sunday Chris calls me and says he is gonna bring Brandon and his buddy over to help trouble shoot. We had a blast, had some fun, and we did get somewhere. We did find out his cam sensor did go bad, and thankfully autostoned out here had one in stock. Got that fixed got some info and figured out the front o2 sensor was either dead or not reading correctly. Ok there is our problem and simple fix. At this point Brandon started working on the AWD rom being that was the only rom we could get it to run on. At this point we got the car started and Chris took it home. Me personally Idk what Brandon did to the tunes, I know he tried this or that on the AWD rom to try to get it running and finally we did get it started. Since this car has left my house I do not know what all was done until I saw this thread. I told Chris to just let Tom tune the car thats what he paid for it will get done soon being we have ****ty weather here right now. I know Chris is kinda getting impatient at this point being he has a nice car, but yet can't use it the way he wants to and its understandable.
