Throttle-less gasoline turbo charged engine control.

Has anyone including renown motorsports franchises used a combination of fuel and timing advance(and cut) to throttle an engine that is turbo charged in gasoline?

An idea could be as simple as map based vs rpm like typically done. Remove the throttle blade from the throttle body.. Use cyclic idle to keep idle down. Then the tps vs ign cut retard could control torque output vs tps.

Hair brained idea but I don't think it's out of reality. Essentially zero lag would be possible.

dont see how this would allow zero lag?

With no throttle plate there is no vacuum. Using ign cut ign timing and fuel to control engine torque, there would always be boost in the intake plenum similar to a diesel.

I'm sure there would need to be some creative work done for part throttle. Like hot side or cold side control. Ie your throttle is closing the wastegate or opening etc. cold side would be venting bov to maintain torque request.

Formula one cars barely use a throttle plate as it's more of a rule thing than necessary ..

I have been watching wrc videos and they have that same cornering sound as some f1 cars do. They both have complex engine controls.

ok... boost lag is a mechanical problem.. engine rpm + exhaust gas = spoolup. basically unless you have enough exhaust gasses to spin the exducer wheel you cant just recreate that process by adjusting ignition and fuel at any given rpm ..

Right on a few things have gotten me to this idea: fresh air anti lag. Turbo speed is relatively same through out all driving conditions whether on overrun or accel. Airflow demand switches from engine to exhaust manifold per drivers torque request.

Cold side boost control: keeps turbo speed up during transient and launch conditions. Typical behaviors for a blow off valve but more than a on off thing. Did this with a snowmobile. A 3 port goes to the bov and a soft spring of your choice, blocking signal to the bov allows pressure to bleed off the charge tubes.. Modulate duty cycle as needed

Why wait for a turbo to spool up when there's other things atleast 5 of them to control torque. All a manifold vacuum does is keep the engine from running away.

Keeping in mind this is geared towards spirited driving and not city driving conditions.

Gr n basically has a primitive idea of this. Jacked throttle and the big three to control engine torque. Perhaps .. I need to to test this myself lol. I have a spare throttle body.
