Stop by the shop and I’ll let you play with one. The best way to judge usability is by actually using it.

UTEC Consideration

Nathan, I'm back in DC and I think I'll stop by your shop as well. I talked to Phil in January about UTEC availability, and I'm about ready to take the leap, but a demo would be great. Will report my thoughts on forums here.

My brother Mike came by with his silver WRX wagon about a month ago to peek at the UTEC and you treated him right. I've had my blue Evo since last Fall, and Mike broke down and got a silver Evo, so my future sister-in-law gets the WRX. We could be an all-TXS family soon. ;-)

Are you there every weekday?

Thanks,
Adam

Yep, we are here pretty much every day. It would be nice if you called before you showed up just so you'll know if we are out on the road tuning or something, but anytime Monday though Friday should be good.

Bump.

I'd like to see some current UTEC users add to this topic. I think there are a few of you out there now who can evaluate the "ease of use" of our UTEC.

well, its very easy. I bought a used dell laptop for a few hundred and it works great. I was posting some of my logs and the guys were helping me with the basics. You MUST get the tuner and map switch. There is no better insurance than knowing your a/f ratio at any given load. I warn you though, this thing is addicting!!! I tune on my way to work. Analyze, then make changes on the way home. back and forth everyday. When i call TXS, they pick up the phone and say "HI RAY" Blows me away....

lol, nice to hear that they are that helpful.... they helped me onc with my HKS BOV stalling issues a bit....

WOULD it be best for me to get my next batch of mods in (IC, fuel upgrades and cams) before I get the utec installed and tuned?

if i were you id buy one now. i understand that they are selling like hot cakes right now. besides, even if you do buy other mods at a later time, you can always easily retune. also, i'm pretty sure TurboXS will be releasing their base maps on their website that you can download for free, each one specific to certain mods.

Yep, you have a point.. There's quite a few WRX maps posted, and a few flash updates for the ECU itself.. We'll probably be seeing things faster because of the tuning community shares more info, and their development efforts for many of those things are already jump started by the WRX updates..

Don't use the WRX Maps! That wasn't what I meant by my post.. I meant that much of the learning curve and work for the functions has already be done on the UTEC for the WRX, so its going to be quicker for them to get revisions out to us.
