If you are in SC you are near Spec Ops so have them work on it.

contemplated it yes. I never switched until i bought myself an AEM v2.

I stayed with MAF because 1, i just didn't see the point in changing it out if I'm not making crazy HP. and 2, it has no issues you can have with SD. I like driving at the beach and high into the mountains, and had heard this affects SD. Also through research that I've mostly forgotten, I learned that our stock ECU SD is some bastardized version of real SD.

But really, my car ran great and ran fast as hell on the MAF. I don't know why to get rid of it on a normal car.

As far as Spec-Ops Motorsports, yes, I have nothing but good things to say about them. I've been with other shops around NC, and had numerous issues. SOM took care of me, which eventually led to getting engine builds and the works. And they got me into 9's on an FP Black. But you better schedule in advance, because they stay pretty darn busy.

 

There are no elevation issues or anything for that matter with speed density on stock ecu.

I have customers that travel 3000ft+ above to go to tracks without issues.

also why to do it over maf?

more power
quicker response / spool
smoother driving on very low loads.
cleaner engine bay (opinion)
ability to use non recirculated bov.

I had cars go from MAF to SD and pickup 6mph in the 1/4 doing nothing else.

Even on stock turbo the MAF restricts power.

Even gutting the MAF out and unlocking load and ipw load limits it still cant compare at all.

both spec-ops and force-fed are great shops but I had the same thing where they recommended me to stay with the MAF. Not sure why this is, but I would assume it is easier to tune because they don't have to change as much stuff. Main reason for me wanting speed density is wanting to ditch the oem bov for the TIAL, and also wanting to clean the engine bay up with a custom 4" SD intake. There are alot of happy customers from TSCOMP tuned on the forum though

My car was dyno tuned locally here by iveytune, granted it was still on maf, when i switched over to Tom's SD basemap, immediately it was a night and day difference, the car actually idled, turn a/c on/off, just a overall very smooth drive, like stock. Tom's attention to detail and support is amazing. He spent quite a lot of time with my tune. He literately sent me 10 or so maps for a start up issue i was having, which turned out to be a mechanical issue with the car. I wish i had went to him from the beginning.

 

if a tuner asked me to stay on a maf i would look for a different tuner.


just because someone has a shop with a pretty face and nice dyno ,does not make them a good tuner. tuning a bunch a different platforms does not make you a good tuner. it gives you a little knowledge on each platform. a good tuner will have lots a experince on one platform.

 

Tscompusa was always there to work out problems on my car. I was constantly changing parts, and he didn't ever complain about making an adjustment to the tune. At 800+ horsepower and 45psi, I was never concerned about his ability to keep my car together. On top of everything, he would overnight parts for me at cost!

Have you found the virtual dyno to be fairly accurate?

 

Only and I reiterate ONLY if the car's info is correctly entered and the road is flat. Most people mess up on the weight of the vehicle or use a bad road.
Jay @ Boosted Tuning posted a thread where they did back-to-back road and dyno pulls. I think there was maybe a 3whp difference.
If nothing else it's good for seeing gains or losses in between tunes.

 

I'm running Win7 x64 under Parallels 8 on 10.9.x and can tune fine. Tactrix, Zetronix and AEM WMi are all coming in over USB. Late 2008 MacBook Pro.

Haven't tried tethering to the cell for remote road tuning, but there's no reason to think that wouldn't work too.
