Idle Quality with Cams..
Idle Quality with Cams..
Quick question.. I'm going to install my cams and oversized injectors.. I know I can compensate for the injectors for the time being by removing lots of fuel from the load sites in open loop, closed loop the ECU should compensate for it most of the time.. But what about Idle quality (keeping it from stalling) with the 272 HKS Cams?
I saw a fuel trim of some sort in the configuration settings.. but where should I be adjusting (Besides raising the Idle by adjusting the throttle stop on the throttlebody)

The honest answer here is "I don't know" since we've not yet put 272s on our car.
When we have some idea how it works, we'll let you know, but I suspect you'll be telling US before we get around to doing the install.

Yeah, I was considering the reflash route for the RPM limit, Fuel/Boost cut, and speed limiter anyway.. I may spec out injector scaling and idle adjustments to go along with it.
Ultimately what I was hoping to do was get some expertise in getting a raw UTEC to do what I want it to, and ultimately give others the benefit of my experience.
I already have my ideas on how to get it to idle based on my info from the Buschur and their s-afc tuning instructions.. so I'll probably work from there..
I was also told that the 272's arent horrible at idle which means i just need to figure out a way to bump the idle up slightly (probably through one of the global settings or the TPS on the throttle body)
I'll certainly post something when I get an idea of what works.

bring it to someone who really knows how to tune the rex utec...whether its turbo trix or taking the trip out to turboxs. i bet nathan and jermaine wouldnt have much trouble figuring it out. try doing it without the reflash...thats what i'm going to do.

The utec is capable of doing all that you ask of it. Either with tuning or a software update. Which is the cool part, you don't have to pay for software and most answers to your questions are a phone call away. If you really think you need to have a reflash, but by all means still do it... But we are working hard on software updates to make you more than happy with your purchase.

For what its worth, I waited a year for the UTEC to be released the moment I heard it was in the works. There are four things I'd like to see released asap in order of my personal priority..
1) Injector Scaling
2) RPM and Fuel cut bypass
3) Secondary O2 Sensor simulator (In every mode even stock)
(and primary O2 heat coil loop simulator and tuner 1v Passthrough to the primary O2 ECU input)
4) Idle Control settings (Mixture and RPM) if possible
The funny part is I don't really "need" the Secondary O2 since I run a catalytic converter, but I see it as a valuable feature and a major potential selling point over other products. Being able to use the wideband output as a replacement for the primary O2 input is another good potential selling point since it would make the Tuner installation easier since it would no longer requiring welding in the Bung, therefore making it completely a DIY product.
If you guys need any assistance, feel free to drop me a line.

Hey... who let Pete out of his programming cave?
Hey, I have 272's and it idles just fine. A bit rougher than stock but doesn't even come close to stalling. No changes made. Will be on the dyno with the UTEC on Sunday so will hopefully have lots of information Sunday night. We are curious as to how sensitive it is to knock so will have the headphones on and seeing how the UTEC, Tuna and Knocklink all report knock. Lots of fun

Good luck on the dyno! Also please take note of my thread about the parameter file change https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=71131 as this will change the way the car drives under partial throttle.
The guys at Pruven Performance dyno tuned a car with 264s this week and reported the idle quality was still quite good. I’d encourage you to contact the customer that started the thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=71051 for more specific details.

We really didn't have any issues with the 264's, 680cc injectors, and walboro 255lph pump. Just pluged the utec in and started right up. I talked to the owner of the car the next day and he said it started with no hick ups (cold start) and drove just as well as it did with the flash. As soon as i do a evo with 272's i will let you know how it goes.

will the UTEC be able to make the 272's idle fine? I know some people have stalling issues and some dont....its weird.... will TXS tune the car if brought to them? and how much would that be?
