The old Ecutek unlock question, sorry

So I've bought a 9 with Ecutek locked Ecu and I'm planning a few upgrades, I know this has been done to death but I thought I'd ask due to the slightly different info I have been seeing in my research regarding cracking the lock and writing over the Ecutek software. I've read about the Ecu unlocker 1.1 and some say it does and some say it doesnt work, that was like 5 years ago when Malibu Jack was doing his thing....I'm not really a software dabbler but i plan on learning this stuff

Now thats its 2015 is there someone who can def tell me that I can use software to unlock the Ecutek software or do I have to just go on researching and trying stuff my own...lol
