Issue with EVO 5 injectors,no pulse from ecu on 2 Injectors
Hi All,
First post here and I'm looking for advice!
I've got a EVO 5 which recently threw a rod out the block, I replaced the engine with a low mileage 6 engine.
The issue I'm having is the car is not starting and I have put it down to injector 3 and 4 not getting a signal sent from the ecu to pulse.
What I've done so far;
Checked for spark to rule out crank sensor
Checked continuity from ECU to injector-Good
Checked voltage at injectors-12v
Checked Injector resistor pack, reading 6.8ohm across all 4
Checked fuel pressure-Good
Swapped injectors around- All 4 injectors working(Confirmed by cranking engine with fuel rail off on top of rags)
Checked grounds
Checked pulse directly from ECU using test light- A clear pulse 1 and 2, nothing from 3 and 4.
And finally I've changed the ECU and run all the tests again with same results
I'm currently seriously stuck and almost at the point of hiring a trailer and towing it 2 hours to a Evo specialist.
1. Double check you have installed your cam position sensing cylinder correctly. It could be 180 degrees out.
2. Double check that pins 2 & 14 (drive for Injectors 3 and 4) are making good contact with the female receptacle in the ECU plug.
3. Back probe pins 2 & 14 during cranking for injector pulse.
3. It is possible both ECUs you used to test have blown injector 3 & 4 drive circuits. Get a known good Evo 5/6 ECU and retest.

Reason: Added pinout diagram

How do you mean the cam sensor could be out 180 degrees?
I've tested yet another ecu, currently 3 different ecu's causing the same fault.
I took the cam sensor out completely and I'm now getting a spark on all 4 injectors so I'm guessing it's a cam sensor fault...
Item 5 is the cam position sensing cylinder. Used to tell the ECU when cylinder 1 is at TDC. It is possible to install it 180 degrees out of phase.
Item 1 is the cam angle sensor (CAS). These often fail because they are close to an unshielded exhaust manifold.
The paint stripe on the cam position sensing cylinder should be FACING the CAS when the engine is at TDC, like so...
The engine was said to be running healthy before I bought it and I've not took it off, but it will be worth checking and always good to know, thank you! I'll update when I get the new camshaft sensor
