Thanks! I already see one difference which is the O2 sensor (factory O2 sensor) column.. I can programmatically look for that column if it detects that its a WRX dataset.. since the startup screen says if its a EVO UTEC or WRX UTEC once the app detects the UTEC version, I can set a flag to deal with that column accordingly.. I'd need to borrow a WRX UTEC to be certain its 100% compatible.. but that will come later when I'm done with the EVO specific stuff.

I'm sure you want to do the WRX one first really. Oh, wait a second I'm on the wrong forum

I doubt TXS would be willing to send me 2 UTEC's at the same time to be able to accelerate the development effort their being very generous loaning me hardware as it is... However If you can get the SHIFT-1 logs (the CSV formatted one) and some captures including the startup menu, I can get it working well enough that it can tell the difference it will more than likely work. I'll reply to your e-mail.. Where are you located? I want to get a few people from LI (or willing to make a trek out to Long Island) to do beta testing.

On a side note.. Since the dashboard is partially intended to be used in an in-car PC/EmbeddedXP Appliance.. I added a second control panel to let you control WinAMP (MP3/CD Player) while the dashboard is up.. Not very useful, but great for ICE (In Car Entertainment setup) Again, its just a silly addon that I added in about 15 minutes when I found the API's..

I'm a little behind on the graphing, the capture/playback features seemed to be a bit more important, and I'm trying to figure out a good way to do graphing without requiring expensive (and large) addons that can complicate the application's install.

I'll do all the logs, both formats this evening. (Tuna not installed versions)

Portland Oregon so you don't have to include me in any of the testing. I just wanted to make sure you had all the UTEC data you needed.

How do I capture the other screens?

User Hyperterminal to capture the data like you normally would, just capture everything, use the disconnect button and reconnect so the initial screen comes up.. go into a few other menus.. then start a SHIFT-1 logger.. Run the dashboard (d) for a while.. then go back and do a SHIFT-1 logger again.. basically when you capture it, you should have everything captured when you move around the interface.. you can then mail it to
MJ-UTEC@longislandstreetscene.com
(anyone interested in information or beta testing can mail me there too) If it gets bounced, let me know so I can verify the mail address is working..

Of course. I am so stuck in my ways. I always enable capture last so I don't end up with extra stuff in the log files. It was right in my face.

OK.. it looks like I'm going to integrate some support for a real data analysis tool. Additionally I'm going to start creating dashboards for the other logger levels, and continue to work on getting compatibility with the WRX also.

At some point in the near future, I want to set up a Meet where I can demonstrate the product and some of its features, but thats off at least a month.

I tooling up now to finish my in-car computer, with a really nice in-dash display especially for the tools I'm working on..

I also would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their support and the encouragement, and of course the people who will be assisting in beta testing once I have a stable build with most of the features I'd like to initially release.

The one thing I never considered was how I would make this application available, and what features to make available if I choose to go with a freeware/commercial approach...

Don't worry though, it will make everyone happy in the end.

Just a quick FYI.. I created a group of forums (one for the moment) on my website to cater to more specific information than can be covered in this thread. ALthough I intend to post all information here first, it will also be posted there. Screen Shots, Beta versions, downloads, and other demos will be posted there so I can save the EVOM guys a bit of disk space.

This will be the only time I post this link.

Just wanted to say that I took a few days off of developing the application, I'm waiting on some dedicated hardware for this project to show up.

HOWEVER, WRX Support will come alot sooner now, thanks to several of you folks who have sent me some WRX logs of different types and some loaner hardware so I can focus on development in my studio and not swapping the ECU out of my car constantly.

I ordered an in-dash LCD Display to go with my computer project, it will be dedicated testing hardware and will be used to demonstrate the capabilities of the software. This computer is a second generation project (I'll post photos of the first generation setup)

I know its a bit off topic, but some of you guys are also interested in the hardware that goes along with the software, so I've been including both.

I've decided to release a freeware version of the dashboard that will do the realtime display, I will be offering versions that has other features, but I have not yet decided on how I will release them but they will likely be freeware/shareware for the features most of you would need. I have no real interest in selling/supporting software so this has been a labor of love.

Yes.. The unit is a bit smaller than my laptop, I posted a picture of the "component layout" earlier in the thread (The silver case) That unit actually fits in my glove compartment, and the cabling plugs into the display I am waiting on. It can also go under the seat or anywhere there's room for a small paper notebook. The second generation unit will use solid state memory once the development work is done. (Embedded XP or CE for Ix86) requiring only about 512mb for it to run, and the data (music, logs, etc, stored to removable flash or hard disk)

To be honest, I could build a much smaller machine, but I chose a system board that had the features to use as an IN-Car Multimedia PC, Navigation, etc.. In fact, thats how this whole digital dashboard started.

http://bbs.overlord.net:9000/mp3player/

This was a pre-prototype unit, originally designed to fit into the opening on my malibu's dashboard.. It has evolved through 6 generations over the past 3 years as computer technology has gotten better. The current generation uses a system board of 17cm x 17cm, my next generation in planning uses a 12cm x 12cm system board.. All are fully Intel compatible. The one in planning will have a servo controller and analog/digital inputs and outputs (for some automation devices I've designed) and several other devices. The current (new) machine has similar features, and the last generation machine has the same size motherboard, but the case is 4" tall and fits easily under the car's seat.

Again, this is offtopic, but Its something that is relevent to this project since I can't spend 100% of my free time developing the software, hardware, modifying my car, and going racing.. LOL

Ooh.. One new bit of news.. I built a standalone Playback app while I was waiting in the Waiting room for my G/F to get out of her surgery (She's fine BTW), that will play a log file as if it was live data, and you can connect the "dashboard" to it..

Another bit of news, my TouchScreen IN-Dash LCD kit showed up today.. the housing is sweet, and fits in the lower DIN with the DIN Conversion kit, so its not 'visible outside while driving' which is a big deal for me.. Since the in-dash housing, and the LCD kit are slightly different, it needs some modification to fit, but I'll post pics of the new computer and LCD setup, maybe even have the Dashboard demo running on it in the photos.

Since my car is out of commission with a minor tranny problem, I am going to focus on fixing bugs and finishing all of the configuration and adjustment parameters.. and finishing the in-car computer (my bluetooth prototypes should be showing up from my Vendor in a few days too)

I added one new thing to the app, all of the labels will now display the each gauge peaks until reset each one will store the "line" of data in the log that created that particular's gauges peak and it can be displayed, it also does 'peak stores' which is a seperate log of lines of data that meet criteria (I embedded VBScript so you can programmatically look and filter for information to log)

Well, while my car is out of commission, I fabbed up this display from a CD Changer housing that replaces the cubbyhole.. Its functional, but I won't know if it will fit perfectly yet.. but it leaves the entire area behind it to mount a computer system board..
