Evo X knock count 17
Evo X knock count 17
Just bought a 2015 Evo x and it came with an AccessPoint. It has a few mods here and there but did not come with a comprehensive list. It has a catback, sounds like it has a waste gate installed (extremely excessive spool up noise), as well as an AMS intake. I installed the stage 0 tune wanting to keep performance close to stock but to get some data logging and extra gauges to read and monitor. Noticed quite quickly as my turbo spools my knock count skyrockets. I touch the gas really at all and I’m getting a knock or two. Half throttle out of third gives me around 12 counts. Full throttle gave 17. I’ve done a little bit of research on knock count and I’m seeing some people say seeing anything over 2 is a red flag and some people saying knock sum doesn’t matter in the slightest. Curious if i should uninstall my accesspoint, what I could check that may be causing this, if i should be concerned in the first place, and how boned I am if this is a real issue I should be concerned about.
I am not an expert, but I would be very concerned, babying the car and/or not driving it at all until this is resolved.
It seems like you are blindly changing tunes without knowing what modifications have been made to the car. Flashing back to the stock tune does not necessarily mean safer.
With just an exhaust and intake you should not be getting extremely excessive spool up noises. Perhaps the car has an aftermarket turbo, external wastegate or is setup vent to air.
You could post some pictures of the engine bay and we can help identify what modifications have been done: intake, turbo, boost control, injectors, etc.

Driving like a grandma no doubt til this is sorted then. To describe the “excessive spool up noise” it sounds from the interior nearly identical to how a 2000s Cummins would while I am on the gas between 3 and 4K rpm. Extremely airy sound. Not even really a whine or spooling noise.
The spool sound could be due to having the AMS intake, which looks aluminum? That's def gonna increase the sound. It has the stock turbo heat shield, but that doesn't mean the turbo is stock.
What I would be doing next is finding a competent tuner have have them either pro-tune with the accessport or opensource with their own tactrix after you un-marry the AccessPort.

Pretty sure I see a GrimSpeed boost controller, that doesn't get added to the Cobb off the shelf maps until stage 3 I believe, and you don't have the rest of the supporting mods.
I bet if you remove that the majority of your problems will go away, BUT you should find a tuner regardless.
