closed or open loop idle
can anyone verify whether or not the evo viii stock ecu goes into closed operation during idle or if it remains on the settings put into the lower load and rpm points in the utec..
Well if you look at your maps at that low of a point it should say ECU which means that the UTEC is acting as a pass through and its just using the factory settings. Unless you changed these which you wouldnt need to unless you got cams or bigger injectors
On startup, and warmup, the engine is open loop at idle.. Once the engine temp (and a duration of time) rises to close to running temp, it runs in closed loop.. Once in closed loop, it will always attempt to maintain a 14.7 AFR regardless fuel injectors (hence the reason why some cars with bigger fuel injectors idle "strangly" rise and fall or with cams when it sounds like its stumbling) and it will always try to maintain a 750-1000rpm idle.
When you add fuel at the lower load points, in theory the ECU will adjust "around" it after it runs for awhile.. However the time you need it is when the car is running open loop (such as when the engine is first started and/or when its cold)
Where the points read ECU its just passing through to the car's ECU,
I don't think I' rambled too badly.
