UTEC compatibility?

Hello, WRX owner here...

Looks like you guys have a whole bunch of useful UTEC utilities available. Are they going to work with our UTEC versions? Maybe we could share

At the moment I have a Digital Dashboard and data logger (one button click type logging so you can use it to quickly gather data) in versions for the PC, PocketPC and Handheld PC.. Its not a large or complex application..

Currently I'm testing and running it on my UTEC for the EVO.. So it currently doesn't run with the WRX version.. HOWEVER, TurboXS was good enough to supply me with bench hardware (nonfunctional utec ECU's) for the Evo and WRX, and all versions of my app will work with both UTECS, and I will provide support for any upcoming products too..

There is one catch, my software is currently optimized to look best when your already running the Tuner and UTEC together.. (It does work without it, just the AFR display is prominent since I consider it the most important display)

I want to find a few fellow UTEC owners (WRX and EVO) locally and get them all together and set them up with the software and how to use it. Its easy to use, but every computer and PDA is a little different, and so are their configuration.. The last item I need to complete my app is the persistent configuration settings for the log storage path, and com port..

I don't intend to charge for the serial only version, and I decided to include the logging free of charge.. but I also have internet ready versions which means if you connect it to your utec, and also connect to the internet, a tuner can remotely tune your car or watch the dashboard as your driving (if you have some sort of wireless realtime internet access)

All of the programs I've developed will work with bare minimum hardware, last gen PocketPC 2000 or Windows CE 3.0 professional (PDA's and Handheld PCs) and minimum configured Laptops running windows (even a P90 laptop running windows 95) which means its worthwhile to keep hardware in your car if you wanted to. (I keep a PDA in my car for this)

Tuning features will be added in the future, but I want to be 100% sure of the current features since they are the most desirable for me.. But it will be able to load and save maps, and eventually edit maps.

Hey MalibuJack,

I haven't decided on rather I go with Xede or Utec yet. But one of the reason that I am leaning toward Utec is because of the talent users like you and many others who makes software supporting it. I think a good user base is extremely important... I know it from my turbo Miata years ago, where you can found a lot of useful information from their newsgroup.

One question, will you even consider working on a Palm version of the logging function? I know it is a lot of work, but I think there is a huge crowd of Palm users out there who may be interested in it. And I think Palm has less variations out there for compatibility issues?

Probably not for the Palm.. I consider the palm to be an end of life product, however the real reason is the expense of purchasing development tools for the Palm and that I'm most proficient in VB and Delphi Both of which produces code thats easier to port to PocketPC (windows CE based devices)

Now, with that said.. Since I am developing my tools in my free time, and generally for my own use, I haven't spent alot of time testing it for different platforms or for compatibility or bugs.. But I do plan on making it compatible with all of the UTEC platforms available (I'm hoping that they release a UTEC for the Dodge Neon SRT-4 since that would motivate me more to pick one up)

With time there will be more stuff available... I really don't expect anything in return for my efforts so there's no pressure to complete or compete.. So bear with me..

But you will see more stuff from me as time permits.. I have several tools in the making including code for the Scantool.net OBD-II and a pocket dyno for both the scantool or UTEC..

Hi eraserhead!
I've been working with both the Evo and WRX tuning communities here in Portland OR to try and create the ultimate tuning tool. I've been working closely with several professional tuners in the area to try and capture the most important items for tuning a car. From this input, and input from several end users, I have created UTEC-SD. UTEC-SD works with both the Evo and WRX versions of the UTEC and offers several features including Advanced graphing capabilities, Full Digital dash with user settable thresholds (So you can setup warning flahses), and a built in autologger.

THe biggest caveat with the software right now is that it is very configurable but no documentation currently exists for the tool so some things may be difficult to use the first time. THis mostly only occurs on the graphing side of things though. You can view more information about the tool by looking in these forums under the UTEC-SD thread. THere you will find the IP address of the ftp server.

Similar to MalibuJack I am doing this in my freetime because I like to create things. Updates to the software have been coming slower lately due to my current job demand and business travel.

Another WRX UTEC owner checking in... I'll have to alert the WRX community of all the UTEC utilities you guys have written.

I myself actually wrote a GUI map editor a while ago, you might find it useful... I tried it on the EVO UTEC maps, and it works fine. Map format seems to be the same.
