Utec Installed - Boost Issues - Help
Sorry about that it is a smoke machine. it just makes smoke and sprays it out and you can put it in the vaccum line. Most auto techs will have this machine it is a very useful tool for drivability issues.

is this like a hollywood effect dry ice type machine, or one made specifically for this purpose? never thought about using something like that. i made a pressure tester that allows me to pressurize the system up to 6lbs. i can hear no leaks, it is possible that i am not pressurizing high enough to simulate the presure that causes the leak.
i love my car until it hits 5500rpm!
then i hate it!

I think the best thing would be to pressurise the system and have a guage of some sort to tell what the pressure is at then check to see if the pressure drops. If everything is seeled well there should be little to no(mostly know) pressure drop. Maybe if you can pressure the systme up to the 21 PSI or wherever you get the leak at. To me it sound like something that is on a spring(i.e. DV) I would replace that and then if that does not work then look deeper. Or take it off and inspect it. Check for cracks and push it in and feel the spring tension. Or you can find another local EVO and swap the DV to see if that is it.

Yah, it actually might not realistically be possible to pressurize the system to a level that you'd need to test it.. Simply because you'd likely get the air passing through the turbo, or the throttle plate.. plus you'd need to generate the pressures in the same manner as the engine running, so the blowoff valve will function as if it was running.. It could be the amount of bleed to your boost controller is taking too much pressure away from your DV, if their on the same vacuum source, so the combination of the two might have the effect of lower than normal boost, then earlier than normal blowoff due to low pressure in the diaphragm..
If possible, try to put the boost controller on a different vacuum line than the DV.. see if that helps.

i am going to order the MR DV from gruppe-s on monday and have them ship it overnight. as long as i am going to order some things, i thought i would get some new hoses as well. any thoughts on the samco hosing? also going to order the helix outlet pipe.
i guess we will know on tuesday if it is the dv. if not, i am gonna replace the wastegate, and then the maf. cant think of anything else.
thanks

Hey.. before you start tearing everything apart again, if you have the stock airbox, just make sure the snorkle isn't loose or something isn't preventing it from taking air.. I just saw another post where he described similar symptoms to your problem where something was blocking his airbox from drawing air.. If you want to test it out quickly (and you have the airbox on) just remove the snorkle portion from the top and see if it still does it.

holy crap! that was it. i removed the snaps when i put the clutch line in. i knew i would be working on the car some for a while, so i did not put them back. took the snorkel off and voila! pulls like a beast!
thanks for all the help mj and others!

ps - holy cow MJ your stage 1 map really wakes the car up. esp. when you have no boost issues! i will log some pulls and post hp and tq numbers later tonight.

Just watch your AFR's.. depending on your intake pipe and other minor mod differences, you could find some areas are a bit lean.. It should be around 11.5 at high RPM and 12.5 or so in the midrange (which may be a little lean depending on your timing and boost levels..)
