Ordered my UTEC

hey i just ordered that Stage 2 setup. Just wondering what my concerns should be when using the UTEC and the Stage 2 map. I have read alot of posts about knock occuring. Should i be concerned. I feel that UTEC and EMS are the best tuning tools.

youll be very happy.

If you have any questions jermaine and nathan are always helpful. The Utec is a great tool. Been running the stage 2 map for 2 weeks now and it runs perfect. set your abc to 20psi and have fun man!

thanks i was a little worried that their wouldnt be that much support in this forum. I always see MJs posts though LOL. I have a HKS catback and a HKS downpipe that was never installed that i am trying to sell. I am scrapping that for the Turbo XS setup. I like to have one type of company mods on my car. Dont like to mix and match. Its my first ECU aftermarket purchase . I hope its a good experience.

You'll be real happy with it.. just capture a few logs for the first few days and see if you see anything unusual.. but that map is designed for that exhaust setup.. so you should be ok.

that's a damn good price for that setup... I have everything Turbo-XS from that kit but the catback and if I bought it new i'd be much more over the price
If only I knew they gonna come out with the kit I would have waited...
I desperately need a cheap catback!

is the UTEC a good idea for a novice? or is it better off to get a reflash? some of the descriptions of what you can adjust seem intimidating.

Actually its fine for a novice.. You can get someone to help you tune it, and leave it alone until your comfortable with doing it yourself.. Or you can sneak up on things as you learn a little about how it works.. but its not all that scary once you start working with it. If you plan on having a fairly static set of mods, then a reflash may be a good option for ya.

Are there pre-set maps that you can download and view? I learn better from example and it would be interesting to read over lines and lines of code.. brings me back to my C++ phase =p

You get one preset map and a pretty decent manual that explains the parameters.
Everything else you can ask here once you get started

There's a base stage1 map provided with the UTEC, and their stage2 kit comes with a stage2 map.. There's not a huge base of Maps and associated mods yet, there just aren't enough tuners out there yet tuning the Evo UTEC.. Many of us are awaiting the new firmware upgrade before committing to refining any maps (thats my reason at least)

One question i have is how can the stage 2 map yield such high results without a new fuel pump

Because a fuel pump isnt really a necessary upgrade, just a recommended one.. most of the upgrades until you get to a certain point are removing a bit of fuel, so its actually telling the injectors to use LESS fuel...

The pump is one of those "Preventative" measures for problems in the future since some cars pumps for one reason or another don't sustain high pressure under very long hard runs, in my case I have not experienced that, but if you have a lot of modifications where you are now requiring MORE fuel (your duty cycles are around 82-85% on the injectors) the additional fuel volume will make tuning and getting an optimum fuel ratio easier

Its hard to explain, but the additional volume of the new pump raises the amount of fuel that goes through the injectors slightly, which means that in some cases, your tune may go rich at higher RPM and you can remove a bit more fuel.. It basically gives you a bit more "Headroom" to work with on the stock injectors for lack of a easier to explain answer.

I do this because Its my passion, I have very little interest in making money doing it so I never gave any thought to getting paid for it. However, this also allows me to be impartial about products and tuning methods. There's just no "right way" to do this stuff, I'm just not trying to sell anything with the stuff I talk about.

I probably would be best suited to write for a magazine basically doing the same thing I do now.. but nobody has approached about writing articles or whatnot for use in print. (I've obviously done quite a few for websites and contribute alot of my blabber here.. )
