I'm on the SAFC2 Fence...

I'm thinking about getting this form of engine management but I am hesitant to do so b/c I'm afraid that I can't find anybody in my area to do a custom wideband tune. My goal is simply to achieve over 300whp with the help of a Walbro 255. And I was thinking about the SAFC2 or Al's Fireball TTM.

I have the safcII. It was a hassle to tune and my car ran better without it.

I have Al's flash fine tuned on the AFCII for elevation 5800ft. 377hp & 393tq on a Awd Dyno Jet. Works great for me so far.

Also think seriously about getting an e-manage for your fuel tuning. That is about all that it is good for, but it is good at it.

KFive,

Get the flash, the SAFC and a wideband. A wideband isn't super expensive anymore (there's one for sale on here for less than $300 -- same one I have and I like it) and it gives you peace of mind. It also almost pays for itself the first time you don't have to pay for dyno time and tuning. The flash will help a lot with timing and low end torque. I'm not sure that many people are making 300+ awhp with just an SAFC unless they also have bigger injectors (which indirectly advances the timing).

Did you get a through the mail flash along with the SAFC or a custom tuned chip. If you don't mind me asking, what else is done to your car? I've had plans to get an SAFC installed at Mac for a while, they're great over there. Just haven't had the time lately.

4-BNGR: I already do wideband tuning in the NC area. I know you have a Dynoflash now, and it is awesome.

Recently found out something. My car had a custom dynoflash on it. I was starting to get the P0300 code after I installed the injectors. So I had the P0300 reflash done and as a result had the stock ECU fuel and timing maps back in it. I tuned it with the AFC to run on the larger injectors. I tuned it to 11.4 on the road all across the RPM band. What I found out was the stock timing maps and the resulting lower load caused by pulling out fuel with AFC caused the power curve to be real bad until 4000 to 4500 RPM. Then it smoothed out and ran very good. The timing was going down to 2 degrees at 3100 RPM. The stock ECU was seeing 14% less MAF signal than was actually happening and this caused the timing to be advanced too far and knock was occuring causing the ECU to pull timing down to 2 degrees before TDC.

Conclusion: AFC tuned cars will run strong at the track with larger injectors, but driveability and power around town sucks.

Best solution is: ECU flash for larger injectors and fine tune with AFC.. This gives you close to the right tune, good timing, smooth power down low and good pull up top. Fine tune the Air fuel with AFC or other fuel tuner and wideband.

My $.02

Brian
