is it better to buy a custom fabbed turbo oorrrr get a kit from rpw or rrm? some say quality is an issue with kits and they prefer custom others i talk to say kits are cheaper and usually are less work while stilll others say that customs are more expenseve but can yield better boosting

what do u guys think? i haven't a clue

no matter which way u go, it's usually gonna be the same price and ur only limited by boost on ur engine internals. no matter what kit or custom ur only going to boost at 8-9psi max.

Get a custom fabbed turbo manifold, cheap aluminized piping for up pipes/downpipes/IC pipes, then go for Road Race's starter kit. Find a good condition used turbo even at that.

I'm gonna say custom. I think I kinda voiced that in every turbo thread posted in the past 4-5 mos though. If nothing else, like Paul said, custom off a kit seems the way to be imo. Neither of the existing kits suit quite what I want for my car.

i think hobie likes the possibilities of fuel control with a custom setup. plus you have other things that are nice such as custom turbo manifolds and the chioce of injection method(larger injectors opposed to whatever the kit uses).

the only bad side of a custom setup is the downtime. kits are great for ppl who dont have spare cars or ppl who dont have access to a turbo shop.

kits are cool if you like to do it yourself, if you get a custom set up you just hand them the car and say here do this and then get it back a week or so later.
