There are a few 400 whp Mirages that I know of. The cost is not as astronomical as you guys make it out to be, but it is still high. Consider 4K on a turbo kit (a nice one) plus 1K on full EMS, plus another 1.5K on forged internals ..........

I guarantee it costs a minimum ballpark of $USD10,000 to even approach 400whp. And even that is making a lot of assumptions about tuning and integrity.

BTW, why are you trying to sleeve the block Lancestuh?

Save the money and buy something else. I came from a 350 whp GTI 1.8T and I loved the car but man not being able to use 1st or most of second gear gets old. Anything is possible with the funding, but if you have the funding use it towards a better car. EVO 9 would be sweet LOL!!!

I wouldnt go that high on the cost. I had boosted 28psi but this was untuned, running pig rich, and without EMS and guesstimated I was about 350 - 385 whp. Throw full EMS in there and a tune, I would say a minimum ballpark figure of 7.5 - 8K to run 400 whp safely.

So what is our weak link (4G94)??? First the pistons, then rods, then ????
Is it all because of the thickness of the block of 4G93? Could you put a long block in 02-03 Lancer and then go from there?

Weak link is the bottom end - rods and pistons. It is just not built for power. I was forged on the 4G93, dont get me wrong. The baby motor is just as susceptible to death by unga bunga as is the 4G94. Putting a long block of the 4G93 would be pointless, cuz you would actually lower displacement. Even though, from talking to several turbo and formerly turbo Lancer guys, it seems that with the longer stroke comes higher chances of blowing. I dont know if it is because of poor tuning or what. 12psi tuned is the limit that the 4G93 is tossed to, and RPW was doing, I believe 13psi with Emanage. Rumours also flew about the Puerto Ricans running 15 psi, but I dont know for sure. Even the 4G92 SOHC (the 1.6L), my buddy was running 12 psi tuned with Emanage for over 2 1/2 years with no death of motor.

I was thinking about sleeves becuase my buddy was talking about it! But hopefully I can get some info from airquez about the 89-92 mirage block are they cast iron, or aluminum? Because I can get a full block for $50 and get forged pistons and rods kinda cheap for it.

Unfortunately, it wont work. The Mirages in that year came with the 4G15 and the 4G61 engines, respectively.
