Turbo Question

Ok im thinking of going turbo, but i was wondering what kinda turbo can be put into the 03 lancer oz. i've heard that you can get any turbo and make your own turbo kit. i work at baxter's auto parts and i get a good discount of piping and what not they have there. my wife;s brother is going ot upgrade his turbo on this 05 subaru wrx and i was thinking of taking that and putting it into the lancer. is it possible? thanks in advance.

Considering the lancers stock delicate internals, you are goin to probably want consider the smaller turbos. Example being rmrs T-28 and Garrett T-25 turbo setups. A wrx turbo could work but its gonna take some serious adjusting and tuning. Keep in mind that you may also want to instal some form of a tourqe converter and upgraded internals.

Do you mean a torque converter for autos or do manuals have something too? Explain please...

autos mainly but I think manuals have something a long the lines of a tourqe converter as well. Not exactly sure but I do know our stock tranny can't hold a lot power with out some upgrading. ALso might want to consider your axels as well.

No. Manual cars do not have torque converters.

I haven't heard of any trannies dying - wanna post some info? Same for axles. I haven't heard of a single snapped axle. Maybe I just missed/forgot this stuff, but someone going "I think" and "not exactly sure" probably shouldn't be giving info to a guy about to boost his car.

Not trying to be mean, but twisty kinda had a point.

I have been researching custom turbo for a long time on these boards, and i'm currently in the process of putting mine together (only 1 more month to go!!! i can't wait). I have yet to hear any issues regarding the tranny or Axles. There are people on this board pushing the limits of stock internals, and a few with upgraded internals pushing over 300whp with no problems with the transmission or axles with the exception of upgraded clutch. The weakest link in the lancers remains pistons and rods with boosting over 9 to 10psi. from the research i've done i've come up with this easy chart regarding what is considered safe and reliable

Stock internals

Non intercooled

0-5psi - 12:1 FMU or conservative tune
5-up psi - Death to engine

Intercooled

5-7psi - 12:1 FMU or conservative piggyback tune
7-9psi - Upgraded injectors with ideal tune
9-10psi - Very highly recommended upgraded injectors and rock solid tune
10psi and up - Upgraded internals, careful tune
