won't stay running

the other day i got caught in a storm and drove through some deep water. After that my car(02 Lancer oz rrm intercooled turbo)would jolt once i hit boost. So i dried my filter and mas out and it seemed to run fine for a day or about 20 miles mabye. Util yesterday i got about one mile from my house and i hit some railroad tracks and my car stalled and wouldn't start. So i towed it home and quickly went over some of the connections, plugs, coils etc. And still nothing, until the next day i tried and still nothing until i pumped the gas once and then it started. Although now when i start it it will run fine for a few min until it reaches normal idle and then the exaust will start to spudder and the engine sounds a bit rough. So i tried to take it for a drive a when i got out of my driveway it stalled and now i can barley keep it running anyone got any suggestions.

How much water? Was your air filter SOAKED? Possible Hydrolock.

Went through a puddle in my Talon TSi, the Intake got disconnected from the TB, it wouldent start unless I had my foot to the floor. Until I connected to intake back to the TB *shrug* It ran fine after about 10 minutes, a week later it chucked a piston. Any water coming out your exhaust?

no water coming out of exhaust. The filter wasn't soaked but it did have a little water in it as did the mas was alittle wet.

Youd more then likly get a CEL if you damaged the MAF. Does it just stall or put to a stall? It buck or jump?

Check spark plugs, maybe purge the cylinders (take all plugs out, turn off pump and coil packs and crank the car 2/3 times.

Could of shorted something on the ignition out, check the wires, make sure its dry where it connects to the coil packs.

Had the same type of problem with my VW when it rained out. Could get it started, would stutter, putt, and limp like hell, it was my ignition coil. The wires were also bad (never buy electrical componets from CAP, set of wires went bad in 2 weeks >=P)

Remember, for an engine to run it has to have 5 things, Suck(intake), Squeeze(compression), Bang(Ignition Sytem/Gas), Blow(exhaust) all within TIMEING

How about when you just put it in neutral and give it gas? Possibley the TPS?

My guess/bet though is the ignition system. Water causes havoc on them

my cel is on but its been on ever since i insalled the turbo but that was about two years ago and everything has been running perfect. It just stalls no bucking. I checked plugs and purged it. Everything seems ok. Im going to see if i can get a mas and coil packs from a junk yard. I don't want to spend $ on something that might not be the problem but i got to get the car running asap.If the car is in neutral it spudders although if i rev it for a couple sec it will run fine for about 30 sec or so. But if i try to drive it stall immediatly.

Autozone sells them, but they will also check it for free-then try to sell you the part (granted you can get the car down there)

If it is the ignition system, it probley threw code for misfire, or maybe ur MAF aint workin etc etc, but itd be much easier to just scan it then throw parts on it. Cheaper to.

With what your explaining, I can almost guarentee its throwing a code, most likly a Misfiree code, on what cylinder/coil pack, who knows.

Also if you think its your MAF, Disconnect it then start it. See if it runs fine

On a older Hyandaui we worked on, the MAF was screwed and it gave LOW LOW Compression by Hyandaui specs, the thing had no power (dident stall or anything) but you could have the pedal to the floor and the car wouldent go above 5, we disconnected the MAF and it purred like new (It was funny becuase it DIDENT throw a code for the MAF)

Hey check to make sure you put ur MAF on the correct way, if you took it off! The air has to flow a certain direction threw the sensor. Ive accidently put one on backwards before and it sputtered and stalled. Its a simply check to do first!!! After checking your codes take a look at your spark plugs and see how they are running. Hopefully they dont have water on them or any water in the cylinders. Compression check isnt bad either to see if the water caused any damage.

My guess is you either have your MAF on backwards or you computer fired a code and put your care in a safe mode on your compute and you need to reset the ECU. Disconnect your battery for 5 min, but check ur codes first.

Yeah before you do anything run through the checklist.

1) check your plugs, if they look mangled or anything other than what they usually look like, you have an issue.
2) Get the last few codes pulled at autozone and see whats up. You could be pulling a maf code but you woudlnt even know it cuz you still have the code from the warmup cat due to the turboinstall.
3) If both above are good, then check out the oil, the coolant, look for any signs of problems.

Etc etc, go through the basics first, moving to the more difficult things as you go. IF the car is still running you may have dodged a bullet because if you truly hydrolocked the engine it wouldda blew by now. I think you just damaged something electrical. Probably the MAF

thanks im going to have to go to auto zone don't know how im going to get the car there but checked the plugs looked good replaced the maf and still prob. How would you put the maf on backwards if it only bolts to the filter adapter on one side?

I'v also reset ecu but still nothing, very confused! It run fine when i first start it but when it comes down from high idle it'll start to spudder and if i try to take of it will stall. And run horrible, and if i come back to start it in a half hour or so it will run ok but still spudder.
