boosting a high mileage car?
boosting a high mileage car?
so i bought my lancer with 98k on it a few months ago, and now i'm pushing 102k, almost 103... at the time i needed a car and i was able to get a decent deal on the only 5 speed lancer within 50 miles of me.
anyway, my buddy just got a 2003 WRX yesterday and that made me realize how bad i don't want to be N/A anymore. i was considering a RRM non-intercooled kit with the garrett T-25 turbo. i'd only run 5-7 pounds of boost... everything i've read says that you can't push an originally N/A engine much harder than that without serious modification.
i love my car and i don't have much credit so i would be unable to get a loan on an evo... so naturally "just buy an evo if you want one" is out of the question. i was wondering what you guys thought though. would it be a good investment to get this kit and have it installed? could i run it on stock internals with minimal engine upgrades? should i not be screwing with things if they have 103k miles on them?
i don't plan on ever selling this car, but i may trade it in one day. right now i want my car to be the best it can be. having a car that is wicked fun to drive is also a nice bonus.
thanks!

Do a compression test. Go over the engine, fix any leaks, any ticks, anything that makes your engine behave or sound other than brand new. As long as everything checks out ok, you should be fine for boosting. If you go with the non intercooled kit you will have to max the boost around 5psi for safety, and at that level its not really pushing the engine too hard. It should still be safe. Good luck

Turbo your lancer, you'll be happy if you stay nice and safe and run low boost.
