Differences in Turbos

someone shed some light please.

what is the differences between the t-25, the t-28 and the 16g.

i'm looking to get started in the all consuming power that is turbo but cant find any straight out explainations or descriptions on these snails.
i'm close to ready to buy [finances wise] and what to have a fistful of info when i'm ready. f.y.i. i'm looking to start stage 0 and build from there, bottom end, head work the whole nine yards. which is the best platform for this.

any experienced or educated info is greatly appreciated.

first off what is your car going to be used for, what's your hp goal, and most important search is your buddy.

hope this helps

From what I recall the main differences are spool up time and peak power potential. The t-25 should spool up the fastest, but it's also the smallest and will lose efficiency at a lower boost level. The t-28 and 16g seem to be about equal, although I would assume there must be some differences between them.

^^^^^^^^^^^^
thanks!
i'm basically looking for turn key power if ya know what i mean, at 250whp marker.my cars nearly paid off. during my last year of payments i'd like to have the stage 0 already on. then get another loan for motor build up, complete the turbo stuff and paint job.
the car will generally be my daily driver but i have a second car specifically for winter though.

Well, what I was told (from a friend that has a s40 SX with a RB20) is that the T-25 is the smallest out of the three sooo... it will spool up faster than the others but at higher RPMs and higher boost it will start to loose efficiency (because you ar eoverworking the turbo. It is spinning too fast) T-25s were standard on the Eclipse GSX's I believe. Now the T-28 are bigger so it has just a little bit slower spool up time but can hold more boost and is better at higher RPMs. The T-28 is what most people upgrade to from a stock T-25 Turbo. Now the 16g I don't think I have heard of it too often. :/ It is either a hybrid or a larger turbo...

Look within the thread. I have posted some links.

There is a 12b, 13b, 14b, 15G, 16G, 18G, 20G, and 25G = Mitsu-designed turbos.

16G isn't the sole turbo for Evo. The modern Evo (four and up) is twin scroll, and it is a slightly different design than the general mass of 16G for DSMs and other tuner cars like H&A products.

Rule of thumb: smaller turbo = low rpm spool point and sprints like heck. larger turbo = higher spool points and more bang at the upper rpm band.

1) A Swift with a small turbo will never beat a stock Evo on a 1/4 mile.

T25 = about 2200 starts boost
Small 16G = about 3300 starts boost
T3/T4 = have to ask AQ since had one
T28 = haven't been in one. Must discount BB or ceramic tech from S15 and Skyline

Started boost at about 2700 RPMs and hit full about 3300 - 3500 RPMs ... I had the small trim one though, to help with low end spool.

from what i gather from my research thus far is there's a ball bearing vesion of the t-25. now, why wouldnt a turbo have ball bearing in the first place, the advantages are obvious.
so it should handle more power and spool faster. right?
does the rrm kit come with the ball bearing t-25. i'm still trying to decide on the right turbo. i want the turbo to spool as early as possible but dont want to push it to its limits.
again i'm not neccesarilly gonna push the motors to its outer limits, just looking to build maximum turn key reliable power in the200 to250 whp range. all input has been helpful as has the search function on this site. just wanna make all the right moves beffore i plunk down all those duckets. thanks again in advance.

try GT28, that's what i am using. Almost done with parts hunt!!! saving money to buy parts cheap on deals on ebay, but taking so long time!!! almost done, we will boosting by feb!!! from what i know gt28 spool around 2500rpm and full boost around 3000rpm, i think that is very good with our rev limiter!!!
