Change the flanges on thr RRM turbo up and downpipe?

I was rolling around ideas in my head because I have 2700 bucks in limbo and it will be coming to me soon. One of them is the non-intercooled (for now) RRM turbo. I am aware that it is designed for the stock manifold or RRM header. I own neither of these. I was thinking I could get some flanges made that will match the Kamikaze 3 bolt ones and cut the 2 bolt ones off the up and down pipe and weld the new ones on. Then weld a mount on the header for the turbo where ever it ends up after modifying the pipes. Am I the only one that thinks this is a good idea?

Also I am a noob to turbo and I have been looking at the pic on the RRM tweeker kit and I dont exactly know how the up and down pipes connect. The up-pipe comes from the manifold/header and bolts to the turbo. What is that flange on the back of the up pipe for? And the down pipe comes from the side of the turbo and connects to the exaust where the manifold used to connect right? Please dont tell me Im stupid. I have looked high and low for a picture of these pipes on someones car. No one takes pics of the exaust connections. Thanks in advance

Flange on up-pipe is for external wastegate... IMO if kamakazi header(which i've never seen)does actually just replace the stock header and allow stock flexable downpipe to connect to its bottom, then you could do the reflanging like your wanting. My only concerns would be turbo fitment in relation to kamakazi header pipes. If the headers pipes come out far from the head they will not allow for turbo to fit. Rob at RRM knows the kamakazi header and would be better suited to answer this. I've pm'd him this post so he'll probably answer you soon. Hope this helps

Problem is that modding one pipe compells you to mod another pipe. Dominoes fall..... Just get a header from us. Problem solved. if you get turbo from us I would work something out with you.

But the spirit of fabrication would be lost! Hmmm Im gonna have to think more about it, money is still in limbo, half is from an ammendment to my tax return and the other is tuition reimbursement, and we all know how fast the govt. moves when the money is owed to you. Opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I believe the Kamikaze header uses a 3 bolt design and it has its own downpipe. I doubt it would work like that.

The idea was to modify the up and down pipe into 3 bolt flanges, but I never thought about the possibility of a clearance problem with the radiator.

Believe me, those fans cut it pretty close...granted my setup's a lot different, but the housing isn't a whole lot bigger on the outside. If you can fab yourself then it may be doable and possibly even fun, but if you're payin' for it save yourself the headache.

Ok I went outside armed with a ruler to measue clearances and found something else out. On the stock manifold the primaries come down and to the right (if you are standing in front of the car and looking) making them offset right from center. Same is true of the RRM header from the picture on the site. Kamikaze come together in the middle maybe even off a little to the left. So even if I was to change the flanges the up-pipe would come up into the header. No dice. I guess I have answered my own question. Dammit.
