A few questions on Turbo

Hey, I've been reading this forum for a couple months now and i had some questions that have been bugging me. I would really appreciate your guys insite.

Heres my goal: I want to buy a Lancer OZ with about 60K miles. I want to turbo it and hopefully get about 200-250 ponies out of it.

Heres my Questions:

1. Is it wise to boost a Car with 60-70k Miles all ready on the engine and try and get 200hp out of it? I do plan to replace the pistons, camshaft, and pauter rods.

2. What would my gas milage be like? I read some place that turbos actualy increase gas milage when your not boosting.

Thank you.

you dont need to rebuild the engine for 200 or 220hp. Boosting with that many miles wont hurt anything unless the car has been dowgged all its life. Plus if you planning on rebuilding you engine you can go past those goals and also have a fresh engine to boot.

Under boost gas mileage decrease obvisously.
In vacuum (not in boost) car gets the same milage as before.

but the differce is that you are accelorating less. So since your are at wot less you save gas. But if your always boosting you gas tank will be empty really quick.

1. It'll be fine, just as long as it has been maintained properly
2. I could see how normal driving it could actually help gas mileage. Seeing myself drive auto around, there are numberous times I WOT it to redline just to get anywhere. But with the extra hp, one would have to be so crazy with the gas pedal. Hopefully someone understands what I'm trying to say here. It's just an assumption, not a fact...

1) i boosted my car at 50k, didnt have any mechanical engine problems, just stupid used turbo and careless problems As long as it wasnt beat to hell before hand you should be ok

2) Mileage stays the same, doesnt really go up, unless you're in boost then it goes down. I still got over 300 miles to the tank if i was just doing straight highway driving, tooling around town and boosting though i went through a tank twice as fast.

Also you may want to keep in mind you will need probably a clutch upgrade. After 60k of use, the clutch wont be able to take much higher horses without slipping. Mine was slipping bad at 7lbs in 1st and 2nd gear in boost. 7lbs with a 12:1fmu will get your WHP around 190-200hp so 200hp on the lancer engine is pretty easy. The stage 2 upgrade (upgraded injectors, tune on a good PB, and boost up to 8-9psi) gets you in the 215-220whp mark. So 225-230 safely on a lancer is pretty easy. Above that you will start having to upgrade internals for the higher boost levels, and you better have a rock solid tune.

So i can boost about 230 safe with just a new clutch? and a good tune?

Also, dont most turbos start boosting past 3000 RPM?

i believe it depends on the turbo. a smaller turbo will reach boost faster.

Shoot, my turbo spools under 2k. But then again it can only hold 12psi at redline (7k). Some people run turbos that dont spool until 5-6k.

But if you want a turbo that can run 20+psi (spike) and have 0 lag look into a stock vw turbo (ko3s by borg warner aka kkk). YOu can find the used of ebay and on vw forums for $100+ dollars.
