Effecting the engine's life with turbo
A little while ago I saw an ITR in a magzine that used a Motorcycle Exhaust as a wastegate. The exit was directly in front of the front wheel. I was just wondering if this was a viable modification? It has nothing to do with "looking" cool, but this guy was an engineer so I assume there was something to be gained from this......
IM ONLY 17 AND I HAVE A 0Z LANCER 02 AND WAS THINKING OF PUTING A TURBO IN IT IT'S AN AUTOMATIC AND THE ONLY THING I HAVE IN IT IS AN INTAKE AND EXHAUST AND WHAT CAN I RUN WITH EVERY THING STOCK ON THE TURBO WHAT PSI THANKS

with ported & polished heads and intake manifold, forged pistons, all the "bolt ons," all new internals, camshaft, cam gear (stage 3), bigger fuel pump, injecters, RRM intercooled turbo, etc.. would it be possible to get up 12-16 lbs of boost? or is that asking for too much?
Have yet to test that high. Our max goal is going to be 10psi. Not that you have to lower compression but items like rods/crankshafts/tranny etc are limiting factors. Many will get pistons but don't want to get rods so we are concentrating on that. With rods and head bolts i'd say you could run up to 15 max. Its all about tuning for it. If your serious about it and get all that you said done then you can get kit from RRM and RRM will assist you in going to that limit. I know they'd like to see it happen! Right now we are focusing on 10psi!
so basically if you spend the money to get a non IC turbo kit from rrm, get it put in, you can expect your car to run fine with no problems? hows maintence, hard to find a good mechanic in my area, i want some more speed but i dont wanna go nuts, but i think the 5 or 6 boost form the turbo will meet my needs fine, i just wanna go a little faster, im not about to kill myself, or get greedy for more speed, bc if thats the case ill just save my money for a better car.
Exactly right... don't be greedy... change your oil/filter every 3k and make leak/visual inspections often... maybe every 500 miles or after long trips/hard runs. Other than that nothing you need to do. If you have no leaks after a couple oil changes you can tame down your checks unless you bottom out/hit something/ etc.. Simple!
