Question PSI Question

Alright, im gonna get my kit at the middle of next month in august.. .and i was wondering with the stock pistons u can run safely at 6psi, with out toastin the rings, on the other hand for those who have the je forged pistons and new rods, how much boost are u running, or can u run with out overload.... just curious for when im getting ready for boosting my ride... and another thing. I was reading the topic about custom manifolds.. someone said that u can keep the same exhaust manifold and just make a J pipe for it.. dont u need to get a flange and what kind of turbo would bolt up to the stock manifold with mods... T28???

Thanks for the help.

I've been running 6psi for about 4k miles now, no problems so far. I drive the car pretty hard at times as well. Hope that helps.

Any thing to look after if i'm running 10psi?

I have oversized injectors and its managed by an SAFC2.

Everything stock even the compression. If I lower the compression, can I boost 13 psi?

Tuning is the key. You can still blow an engine at low psi if you tune it improperly.

"I have oversized injectors and its managed by an SAFC2."
What injector size are you using?

"Everything stock even the compression. If I lower the compression, can I boost 13 psi?"
As far as I know, no one makes dished shaped pistons to lower CR for lancers. You may ask for custom specs from JE pistons.

There is a trade off w/ such principle, lower the CR, the highest boost that you can attain but suffers a bit on the low end TQ (laggy a bit).

Higher the CR, harder to tune and boost is hard to come by . . . very depended on tuning or on the verge of toating pistons. On the upside, great TQ.

I'm using 390cc from an eclipse.
I was planning on lowering the compression using thicker head gasketts.

How about boosting 13psi with stock internals/compression? Anybody who has done it?

god i hope you have forged pistons for that much boost

the most i have heard on our stock pistons are 7-9 psi but that was not runnin it all the time. with that much boost you would need new pistons (forged) and either shotpeen your rods or get new rods.

Nobody makes a decompression gasket except for possibly RPW. One off of a 1.8L setup might work but don't quote me on that. As for 13 PSI on stock everything, we like to call that a blown engine.

The fuel pump will I know for sure not sure about the injectors. I forget which way it is for the Lancer but it either has high impedence injectors while the Eclipse has low (Lancer=little fuel with many squirts and Eclipse=lots of fuel with fewer squirts) or it's vice versa. Andrew and I were trying to diagnose this once. Let me see if I can't find it if it was even on the forum.

Sory its actually injectors that came from a Lancer GSR 1800CC 4G93T.

The injectors a high impedance so we had to install a resistor pack to have it work with our Lancer.

I also have a friend doing the same setup and running 10psi, with no know and with an AIC setup only.

AAnother friend did a decompression gaskett off a copper plate

I'm in the Philippines by the way

Lets see... where to start... on stock pistons tuned correctly i wouldn't push past 8psi. Stock pistons just to weak to take that abuse. With forged pistons problem is fuel related. If you get fuel right then you can go up to 11psi max... after that your looking at bending rods. With rods/pistons/fuel/timing you can go higher but tranny/head/crankshaft issues are next. It's a game with this car on boost. We have yet to find true limits yet on some things. They are getting revealed but take time and $$$ for mistakes/leasons to be learned. This should give you what your asking about. RRM is developing their stage 2 kit trying to keep internals stock. This kit will only be for Manuals i believe as autos are very limited. Hope this info helps

Thanks Boeturbolancer, I have to find a wastegate then, my gauge just went 12psi when i have hit 110mph

Does anybody here have a 4G92 SOHC engine? I would like to find forged pistons and rods from other 4GXX that would fit in it...
