Question Turbo kit

I was just wondering if having a Non-Intercooled turbo kit is illegal and if its not would your insurance go up a lot?

Another question- Would a intercooler be necessary if you have a Non-Intercooled turbo kit? (pushing 5-6 psi)

I doubt many people would inform the insurance company that they have a car modified to produce more power than the OEM might consider safe. The kit is not illegal, but if you combine it with a straight exhaust, you might run into trouble.

As for those that provide the info to the insurance companies, I'm sure there is some increase, but not unbearable.

your insurance would most definetly go up if u reported it to your insurance company, but if you were in an accident that messed up the turbo you are screwed.. and no an intercooler isnt necessary at 5-6 psi, boe ran 9 psi safely without an ic. but he does have other stuff that allows him to run more boost......

both... if you lie to your insurance company and say nothing has changed, but you get into an accident, you are out the 3k you put out for a turbo, because you didnt claim it to be part of the car, so they wont cover it.. they will cover you for a bone stock lancer again... along with that they might be more wary about covering you after an accident because you withheld information from them.. so they might ask for more money in order to cover you because of that

how much would you say insurance would go up if you inform your insurance company of a turbo in your car? (mine is about 450 every 6 months) (stock)

well soon the RRM turbo kit will be smog legal so you do not have to worry about that. If you want your insurance company to cover it incase of an accident you must report it as a modification to them and they will give you coverage based on price.

I think insurance companies also only cover aftermarket up to specific numbers... so Id check with your provider before doing that if you plan on telling them you are getting one... some only go as high as 2500.. which would almost cover a turbo, but no other mods at all.. best thing to do is call up your provider and ask a ton of questions... tell them you are thinking about modifying your car and ask how much they cover up to and how much your coverage will go up ever 6 months in comparison... thats probably better than asking us since none of us probably have anything to do with your insurance company!

insurance

In canada, if you did not mention the modification you made,(turbo, CAI, Exhaust, manifold....) your insurance company will not cover your accident. ( in most case )

Because, you did not mention a rise of the risk !!
( more power = more risk )

Someone can confirm ?
