Castrol GTX for RRM turbo app...
I look at things on a case by case if someone asks me for a recommendation..
First, AMSOIL is available in Honolulu... arrangements should be able to be made from there if you are not near there. We have a container shipped there about every week or so.
I look at things on a case by case if some asks me for a recommendation.. Mileage, build.. I believe whos said I recommended 10W-40 said their engine was built AMS stroker ? and something about cooler temps...
ALSO, remember.... I am making a recommendation based on AMSOIL Products.... Nothing else.... Modified but with Stock or tight clearances AMSOIL's new Dominator Series RD-20, 5W-20... On a basically stock Lancer... ASM 0W-20 or SSO 0W-30.....
If it is questionable on the clearances of an engine, I will opt for the AMO 10W-40.. If AMSOIL's 1400 HP 2.3 can run at Bonneville with that, so can you...
When anyone is having an engine built, they need to ask how the clearances are set... Stock/tight... slightly loose whatever....
Most people, AND engine builders, have the thought process from 40 years ago or more that thicker is better... That is not so in todays world.. It is all about Film Strength of the oil, not just the Viscosity..
If you were taking your EVO out and running 500 miles at a track spinning 9 Grand, I would probably recommend a 50 wgt oil too..
ere was a post where he is in the Islands and runs a 20W-50.. Said it works great except it makes funny noises until it warms up....
Can we say "Oil Starvation!" Any body that understands expansion and contraction, will allow an engine to warm before driving, they are designed to run at operating temp not 100-200 degrees cooler than that.
On a street car, you need oil Now!.. A race car is designed with expendability in mind... Run it hard, if it pukes, oh well, put another in... I don't think most people want that from their street cars.. We want the best overall Performace which is not just the most HP for the Buck, it is also Longevity, and good runability..
That is one of my main goals... to help with the best of both worlds on these cars..

Again... That Nasty Disclaimer.. The Dominator Series ols are Intended for Off-Road and Racing Applications... Just like most of the High Performance parts you buy,,.....
With that said, 3000 with standard oil filters, 5000 with the AMSOIL EA Filter and the RD-30 or RD-50... Oil Analysis is recommended to go beyond that...
Analysis is recommended at 3000 for the RD-20

Shoot.... If that disclaimer stopped any body, no one would be doing any mods to their vehicles because all your Performance parts say that.... LOL... It just covers the companies A$$es.... You can thank your Local Tree Hugger for that..
3000 with the WIX is fine...

Ya i just found out from a friemd that chucks corvette carries amsoil. So considering that i have stock bearing clearances but with all my mods you would recomend the dominator 5w20? She is my daily driver by the way. My next oil change will be to amsoil so i wanna get all my info straight first

LOL.... I believe That is where we send the container to and product gets picked up from there.
The 5W-20 Dominator is a great oil and I Highly Recommend the ASOIL EAO-46 Filter. When using the RD-20, I also (and so does AMSOIL) recommend using oil analysis to keep an eye on wear metals.
You have a PM..

Either / or.... Depends on what you are looking for out of your car... If the engine has stock clearances, the 20 should have no problems... You don't need much oil pressure at an idle.
As long as when you are driving or tracking you don't lose pressure.
I also recommend not getting too far out of your comfort zone...

Oh gotta love these oil threads..... I use Royal Purple 10w-30, car idles smoother and I HAVE NOT BLOWN MY ENGINE UP!! Great oil pressure, keeps heat down. Don't use conventional in a turboed motor, the oil will breakdown on account of heat. You and everyone else can either take my advice or leave it.... Royal Purple is the most synthetic oil out there besides racing oils.... I'm using it and it works better than Mobil one.... just my advice.
^ hmmm..... whats the average temperature you see where you live. Like say the coldest and the hottest and the average everyday temp... Hawaii is pretty consistent 70s to high 80s so im curious to know....

You're Right !!! Gotta love these oil threads !!!
Nobody has said you will "BLOW YOUR ENGINE" with Royal Purple so the Caps really weren't necessary.
You are right about not using conventional oil in a Turbo'd engine. Royal Purple isn't much, if any, better.
The problem we saw with Royal Purple in Independent tests, is that when the 10W-40 oil was tested, it sheared out of Grade in the First Sequence of a 3 Sequence ASTM Test.
So RP may work for the short run, it's performance lacks in the long run.
You may not experience a catastrophic failure immediately if ever, but you are wearing your engine out from sub-standard lubrication.
