I'm running conventional Pennzoil 10w30 at the moment. I'd say that this is the absolute threshold for running a thinner oil after turbo. My oil pressure at idle has gotten as low as 8psi after warming up. This is, however, technically within Mitsu spec according to the FSM.

Use of a high viscosity oil such as 20W-50 is not recommended in a stock or tight clearanced engine.

A higher viscosity oil does not mean "Better Protection" and can have some ill effects on these little screamers. Loss of HP and fuel mileage along with higher oil temps and possible oil starvation of the bearings and turbo. May not be a catostrophic failure, but may be a slow untimely death.

The OEM uses synthetic fluids in the EVO as they are superior to petroleum oils in every way. They are not thinner than petroleum, that is a Myth that some moron started over 30 years ago and it still perpetuates today.

At least we know my story doesn't change.. LOL

20W-50 is just too high a viscosity for 99.9% of EVO's

I won't mention any names but, there are a couple highly respected companies on here that will recommend an oil simply by what they think the customer wants to hear. Not my way of doing things. The customer is not always right.
