I'm going to have to chime in on this topic.

Wrx's and Supra's - those respectable companies have built solid slushboxes. Mitsu never intended their auto tranny to be TC'ed. Look at some of the DSM'ers with auto tranny, their parts for the TC is a bit smaller than its counterparts in manual version.

The main reasons I'm against auto tranny being TC'ed: 1) slushboxes can't really handle too many huge power surges before blowing out. Basically, wear and tear. Ex: manual has a clutch to blow out first before tranny. Since auto tranny has none, you blow out the gears. Cost effectiveness: blow out clutch or rebuild a whole new auto tranny. Which is a huge expense to repair? 2) auto tranny will be always faster w/ similar mods to the manual counterpart - about .5 sec on the dragstrip.

As for the upgrade TQ converter, better durability and you have a better stall speed (meaning you can hold revs at certain higher rpm over stock w/o blowing up). That's it.

Turbo Kits

I am not sure what everyone is going on about but yes you can turbo the auto boxes.

But only if you stick with a low boost system say 5 psi boost with a good intercooler and DO NOT GET TEMPTED TO RAISE BOOST. That would definitly blow your auto trans. At 5 psi it would be safe to run with a major improvement.

Secondly usign a ball bearing turbo designed turbo system it comes in very smoothly at low rpm's so it does not need higher stall converters, does not kick in and damage anything so it is very compatible with auto models.

RPW now has two cars being built in teh USA with turbo's one by Phantom Racing and another by Vision Imports. Can't wait till we see some photo's etc. Vision Imports will be developing the rest of teh kit including intercoolers etc for the lancers.

if you just work on the auto trans, like putting a shift kit and torque converter, etc. it will be able to handle the power and will be faster than a manual.

I did this on my Mits lancer 4g94 SOHC automatic. I love small cars that move fast an since I have a back condition that keeps me away from clutches, i had to do something like this sacrilege (put a turbo on an small automatic jap car) because there was no other way..
it has a T25 BB turbo with an intercooler and twin 750cc iny and a piggy most of the mounts and pipes were custom made because kits sold for this thing are not intended for the automatic gearboxes. there are (still) problems when it up shifts in the fully auto(D) mode however when I want to run I put it in the triptronic mode and shift at my convenience. ONE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A PURIST TO HAVE FUN

Automatics are cool to boost. Don't have to wait til the turbo spools up between shifts. It would be great for bracket racing, can't get more consistent than an automatic. If your running low boost it shouldn't be too hard on the tranny unless your doing nuetral drops. If you plan on going with high boost then it would be a good idea to send your tranny to a shop, like level ten, to do a rebuild and get a higher stall torque converter.

Yes it is very possible, my Lancer is boosted. And it is an automatic. Before anyone says anything, i just recently got an 04 WRX, so don't be like "what a waste of money" and "blah blah blah". Who said there was anything wrong with boosting such a realiable car. People can't handle that someone wants to be different and their first response is "why don't you just get an evo instead?". But anyways, Auto Boosted lancers are very fun. I have mine at 7 psi and it is very quick.

I saw two names from my past: Phantom Racing and Vision Imports.... I was like, was there a rebirth?

Then I checked the dates
