Finally Installing my Turbo

Yesterday started the undertaking of my turbo project, got the kit off zlancer. Athough he left me with a few parts missing, no harm hehe. Didnt realize that the downpipe bolts were missing untill i tried to size it up. also have a few more things missing but its ok because im trying to make it just right.

I ran into a little problem taking the manifold off, problem being the last bolt on the passanger side of the manifold was behind the powersteering pump, I had to notch it out with a carbon bit so that i was able to get a socket out, with out taking the pump off. looks clean too. (will post pics when i get home)

Another problem was tapping into the oil pan, for those of you with turbo kits, how did you tap into the pan, I ran to the store and got 3 taps but none the less my drill bit was not big enough, going to the store today to get a bigger bit.

Installed my FPR and injectors, but kept the stock o-rings because the ones on the 300's didnt seem to hold too well.

Also, the turbo he left me was an oil/water cooled.
No T's for the hoses for me to tap the lines, went to home depot 2 times! and lowes and harbor freight.. nobody has brass t's

Also where did most of you guys put the inlet for the oil line for the turbo, he says that he took the oil sender off and just stuck the line there. I was thinking of doing this but using a T and putting them both back.

Another problem is mounting the intercooler, getting it mounted is a problem in itself. I was going to go the ghetto way to put some muffler clamps on the end tanks but we opted not to and getting custom tabs mounted on each endtank so that we are able to drill into the bumper and mount with screws. Im either going that way, or going to notch into the bumper support with the flaming wrench so it sits flush and looks good in the bumper. Will get to that problem when I can actually mount the IC

Well, I have a fun day ahead of me today.

Today comes the fun part, Installing my Hack, boost, and air/fuel gauge. Piecing everything back together. Drilling the tap.
Hooking up all my lines. Mounting the IC, and hopefully booooooosting today.

Im going to write a complete how to for anyone that wants to do their own setup and also mention any problems that I encountered during this process. Will be posting pictures tonight after i get home from work and then my brothers garage.

Awesome...good luck man...cant wait for the how to...buying a turbo from rrm would be awesome, but there's nothing like the gratitude of knowing you built yer car ground up as much as possible (not to bash rrm). Right on.

yea no doubt.. hobie.. how did you bypass your MAF.. im having a little trouble getting around that.. if you just leave it out does tuning the HACK (s-afc) kind of work around it... i have fpr, fuel pump injectors.. the works.. but just curious.. i dont feel like getting an adapter plate but i guess ill have to if it boils down to it.

yea hopefully all goes well.. imho i woulda loved to buy rrm, but.. i just couldnt afford 4g's for a kit id rather take the aggrovation of getting mine setup myself, therefore I can help all the people out that want to set one up themselves. Only took me 3 hours to take everything apart... with air tools that is.. putting together is another saga...

MAP. It's all in my registry entry for my car. You can't just bypass the MAF though. Unless you have some sort of engine management that has another way of metering air you're just going to be dumping mass amounts of fuel at a pretty much constant rate.

Anytime. If you're going to go MAP, e-manage has support for it and the AEM 3.5 bar (Kavlico sensor) is a great unit. Better definition than the otherwise less expensive GM 3 bar. I don't know how you configure sensors in e-manage though.
