P0171 and P0340

Well.... My car died on the way home and I got these codes... P0171: System too Lean P0340: Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit. It would'nt turn over, I had to sit there for a while and then it started. Got home, let the car idle to cool the turbo, and bam the car shuts off, no codes, started right up, but my gaurge smelt like rich gas, first time in a long time my car smelt rich lol. I am about to give up on this Turbo Kit... I have few things up my sleeve to try... Any suggestions? Plus AFR reads 14.2-17 at idle, car jurks goin into boost (part throttle) and falls on it face (aka brick wall) but does not stall, AFR reads 10.0. And have been getting the P0171 code for awhile now... i have no vacuum leaks.... Also the car spikes lean i think when crusing and wants to stalls (just like the brick wall i said earlier). Help plz any input is good.

I don't know, just a shot in the dark here, but is it possible your cam position sensor is bad/is going bad......like the code says. Which would mess with your timing.

What type of spark plugs are you running, have you taken them out recently to see how they are doing. You may be running too hot.

Piggy Back plus 5th injector, BOV is not recirculated.

what did the spark plugs look like, they may give better insight into how the engine has been running.

haha i just noticed this thread. its really funny that you pay almost $5k for a turbo kit, and 1. it has a bad manifold design, 2. it has a bad tune, 3. the BOV vents (which is not good on MAF cars, idk what RRM was thinking), 4. it doesnt even include bigger injectors, 5. it uses rubber coolant hose as intercooler piping, 6. the coating on the downpipe and manifold flakes off, etc.......and now that I think of it, whatever happened to those 2 other guys on the forum who were so gaga over RRMs kit and couldnt stop talking about how great it is? they got the kit, put up some crappy videos of them driving the speed limit around a mountain or something, and were never heard from again.....

good luck man, maybe you should take that turbo off and buy my kit

on a serious note, RRM's "tune" probably messed with your timing too much and that could be why you are getting the camshaft error. about the lean issue, your 5th injector () could be bad? or maybe the boost controller/wastegate, allowing you to boost more, resulting in running lean

To the op. The fifth injector setup is something we used back in the day as a cheat method for fuel. Its a very flawed design by nature. Mitsubishi ecu's are pretty high tech and will eventually learn to bypass or correct if you would the piggy back rrm uses. the fct1 box is good equipment just not on our cars. If you want to consider this an option. Remove your fifth injector setup sell the rrm box for a good market price and install a evo x 3 bar map sensor $100 at the most. I will provid you with a tune for your car. 7psi netted me 206hp 209lbs tq with no other mods. Your running a slightly larger turbo then i am the 16g, so i would say you'll see 5-6 more hp then i did. idle is 14.3-15.2 and boost is 11.3-11.8. I did this using a evo 10 base map, acquired the new 2010 maps inputted them and then converted over to jdm maps for more power. To date a run 11psi and net 232 hp and 243 lbs of tq. stock engine no other mods other then a turbo. If you want to discuss this more pm and i will send you the current xml and roms needed to flash your computer. YOu will need taxtrix openport 2.0 and ecuflash. Thats another $190, howver your ftc1 box is worth 700-1000 on ebay....let me know AND THIS GOES FOR ANYBODY ELSE THAT RUNS A TURBO TOO.

wow, the work dadsgts has done for the NA lancer community (meaning the lancers that come NA from the factory) has been great. i was able to benefit from the definition files he made as now i can actually see my modified rom RPW sent me, i can even take it to a tuner and have them modify it while im on the dyno if i so desired.
