rods and pistons 2

hey just a quick question, got a guy interested in the k1 rods

if I sell them can you reinstall the pistons back in the motor or do I have to get new piston rings? and do I need to get new clips for the rod bearing or whatever its called that connects the psiton to the rod

thinking about selling the rods, and just upgrading the rods to pauter rods so I can run more power, I guess the 10:5:1 compression will do

If you want proper sealing rings and good compression, you'd be wise to get another set of rings, put a fresh cross-hatch in the cylinders and let the rings seat themselves when you break in the engine. Something like this you do right or it'll have the potential to cause big problems down the road.

The clips for the wrist pins should be fine to be re-used.

yeah I has a feeling, I always reused the piston rings in the same motor when I swapped out the crank in my motor scooter when I was 16 and never had any issues but then again this is a car not a cheap hobby. Thanks man I will be on the look out for some rings and cross hatch so I can get these pauter rods.

When I said cross hatch, I was referring to the cross hatch pattern that is found in cylinders when they are freshly honed. This criss cross pattern that gets etched in the cylinders during honing allows the piston rings to be ground down a microscopic amount when you first break in a new engine. This allows the rings to bed (or seat) themselves against the cylinder walls. This proper seating is what seals the cylinder and allows compression to occur.

See here:

The same occurs with brake rotors and flywheels when they are resurfaced (or new).
