Ok, stop If hee using an evo test pipe which he is going to have to cut how is he going to get it connected to his exhaust if he doesn't know a welder?

This is true. If he used a lancer test pipe all he would have to do is remove 2 inches and turn the flange 90 degrees. Still requiring a welder since the evo downpipe final flange is 90 degrees opposite that of the lancer. Atleast it is with mine. With the evo test pipe he is going to have to remove 6 inches (I think) and still have to turn the final flange 90 degrees. That's probably his greatest delimma to the bolt on part of this build.

Also, if he uses a lancer test pipe (rrm is the only place i know about that has them), it will be a bottleneck in his system along with the evo downpipe. If both the evo 8 and 9 downpipe are the same width then its a bottleneck too for a complete 2.5" exhaust. Those stock dp's are 2.25". My 8 dp is anyway.

His exhaust is his only real drawback (in the bolt on phase)which unfortunately is kinda big.

I don't know a welder that knows how to weld aluminum. I have a mig welder in the basement. I'm a novice but my father in law is an intermediate, lol. I was actually thinking of driving the car down to Lou's custom exhaust for the downpipe if we run out of time.

I just finished putting the turbo and manifold together. I have to pick up 3 10x1.25 50mm bolts tomorrow and a couple of more nuts as well.

get some heat wrap as well. Its not cheap but it helps prevent cracks and reduces engine temp by a lil bit.

Yeah, Im trying to figure a way to deal with this myself. Welding is not the issue with me either, just trying to figure out where I might have to cut or add. But if all we're doing is taking off two inches off the stocker down pipe to mate with an RRM test pipe I wont have an issue. I thought I had read that there would have to be pipe added to go under the engine.

or if your not too far from an exhaust shop, just drive there open downpipe and have them make you a testpipe w/o2 bung to fit the evo d/p. thats what i did and it cost less than $100

yeah I plan on doing that mainly to have them put up the downpipe with hangers and to fix my exhaust. I haven't been able to get it to line up in the back and it sucks being under the car with barely any room to work on the exhaust.

Green bandit - the extra pipe is to extend the stock evo downpipe to the rest of the exhaust. A test pipe should be able to take care of that unless it's under I believe 12 inches or so.

I'm bringing this over from the other thread because I wanted to clarify for the 04-06 lancers with the returnless fuel system we can not use the hose pictured below.

04-06 lancers with the returnless system need to use the u-shape connections by the cruise control/throttle body for a boost signal/vaccuum and for the BOV.

So if I want to keep the cat, do I just shorten the evo downpipe and reangle the flange to connect it? I live in Northern VA and we got emissions here to renew registration.

not sure about that but it sounds about right. If you're worried about emissions you can do the spark plug defouler method to get rid of the CEL light. It worked for me here in Mass.

Ah ok, didn't know about that method. I'll check it out. Thanks.
