Technically speaking pulling trans on an 02-03 lancer this will make the 8th time ive done it if you count mine, yours and another lancer I worked on in the past lol

Speed density was the first thing to hit my mind but like Ryan said a filter won't fit.

Well I decided to go back to stock for now until I figure something out. I guess I'll wire up the gauges and such until I decide to either get another manifold, a 02-03 transmission, or work on another external slave like Burner did. The wife really tempted me to just trade it in for a evo but I've come so far and I've put a lot of time/cash into it. If I get a 02-03 transmission I might as well upgrade the clutch if I go that route but we'll see what happens.

well no matter what yur gonna want to really think about a better clutch....more horse power requires better gripping on the clutch to get it going....

Thats what I was thinking. What would be the best way to get just the transmission out? I'm sure I'm sure a new clutch would be best as well. I'll post up some pics of the engine bay.

Heres some links of some pics I took. I think they might be handy if some one decides to build a manifold.

This picture shows how close the intake is to the external slave (about a half inch)
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...htointake.jpg/

This is a measurement of the intake on the turbo to show how blocked the intake is. (The inside diameter of the intake is about two and quarter)

I used these bolts as a feeler gauge LOL it worked tho. The wastegate is about 3/4 inch from my megan radiator. Not sure how different a stock one would be. (its a little more the 3/4 of a inch)

Just a measurement of the manifold and radiator hose (about a half inch)

Another pic of the external slave in the way

I managed to mock up the jpipe coupler and piping. Everything looks like it should fall into place

I hope these are helpful for anyone else building a 04-06 project.

transmission really doesnt matter.. no matter what u do.. axles will have to get pulled.. so.. if u dont care to mess with th emotor.. drop the tranny out the bottom.. its, rather easy. once axles are out the way..

i would NOT drop the cradle to pull motor and trans.. done it twice on our cars.. always seems to cause issues on puttin git back in.. and ill never do it again.. id rather fight FITTING the motor in the bay for 10 mins rather then 4 hours with the craddle(subframe or wahtever else u might want to call it)

LAST 2 times.. ive done it the same way.. Hoisted engine out... then disconected the trans, and just picked the trans out with my hands.. since i dont have a Lift and car is almost on the grond.. trans weights.. well under 100lbs. any MAN can pickup that trans and move it.. just set it on something that can slide.(like in my case, i use a plastic clothes hamper, worked great)

thats also how i have put the trans back in... by hand.. *(me and a buddy.2 people required to put in.) (ME holding, and buddy sliding in the trans mount bolt..)

if u dont want to yank the motor at all.. thats fine to.. u can leave it in, but have to support it with 2 tall jacks.. and u can drop the trans out the bottom, even without a lift. just make sure u have enough clearance to pull it out the front.

took me about 30mins to yank the motor last time.. and another 15 for the trans... (but, my motor requires alot less things to be removed to come out the bay)

Only thing that I hate about pulling/installing our trans is the "cradle" as Demon puts it gets in the way of the right side of the trans by where the axles connect. This problem is most prominent with the manual trans since you have to pull the trans far enough away to clear the clutch pressure plate and the corner of that darn subframe/cradle gets in the way. Autos dont really have this issue since you only have to clear the flywheel once the torque converter is unbolted. I think disconnecting the lower rad hose helps with this issue which I didnt do last time we pulled Ryans lol. Probably gonna go ahead and drain the coolant this time since its easy enough to do and can be reused.

So I just need the external slave? I don't need the fork going into the tranny?
