Exclamation Ive came to the conclusion...

that i will not being go turbokit from RRM or supercharge from SDS, but custom turbocharger instead. I know some of yall seen me in the post picking between the 2, but its just so much money on speed, thatll i want use that much. I have the money for the turbo (im a receptionist at a neurologist office) and i know some of yall are thinking well why go custom or kit, just get an evo, well yeah... i was this close |---| (the middle bar) of getting and evo, but i promised my girl id move to santa barbara to be closer to her and for those who know, santa barbara aint a cheap city to live in. So i passed on the evo (yeah... flame me, i love my girl... but i need the money to move to sb). So now i wanna go turbokit, but it cost to much, so im guessing going custom turbo would be cheaper. Well, now my girl is getting mad cuz thats more money i can save to move. In this sutition would you get a turbo kit for close to 5gs or go custom (go over everything 2wice, for a lil over 1g). Ive visted custom turbo sites and i think this would be good to do a custom job, could learn a thing or 2. Got 4 of my homies, helping out (one has an evo, one has a civic si, one has a volvo and one has a integra ls), so i kno im in good hands. Monday where going to the junkyards and going turbo searching. Sorry for the rant, maybe i should just get the kit and say goodbye to my relationship , im just confused... anyways i could just buy one for cheap on ebay (saw T-25 turbo with wastegate for 185 BIN ). Or maybe i could just get a kit and tell my girl to ride in her jett for now on (she'll never know)! Gaaaawd, i wish i had more money!!!

your most likely going to wind up spending more money for your custom kit then if you just bought a complete kit already. just get the kit from http://www.turbo-kits.com/lancer_turbo_kits.html you'll save money in the long run...trust me i've been through it already.

ya i would say just go kit - sometimes custom can cost a lot more in the long run, a local shop near me said like almost 5K i think for intercooled for my car. Which is a almost 1K more than the RRM kit, who i trust because they have worked with Lancers for a while now. Stick with what you know works and works well.

i agree, those turbos are not engineered for our car. yes they can fit and give us boost, but it will wear down you car big time, and you will end up paying off a rrm turbo with just repairs.

definitely go with rrm or ripp mods they spent money on
R&D and know the limits of lancers why not spend a lil
more to ensure yourself of being safe we dont know too
muck of those cheaper kits if you do go custom on the other
hand i would get the same turbo and various parts and get
the custom piping done elsewhere or better yet get the
rrm hacker kit believe me you will be happier that way good luck

Good luck with that. Custom usually means $ especially cause you have to figure it out yourself and the results may not be as good as you think.

I disagree with most of this post. You can do a custom setup for way less than the advertised prices of some of these so-called kits. Kits are, in my opinion, just a lazy way for people to slap more power on the car. If you want to save a couple pennies, then by all means, do a custom turbo setup, using used parts. If you check around esp. in the DSM camp in your area, you can turbocharge your car for about 1500 at most. This is the math that I did when I was seeking out turbocharging my car. Even with all the money I put into the engine of my car, and the few parts I have left before turbo, I guarantee you that i have not spent over and will not spend over 5Gs turboing it.

LOL No disrespect to you Lancer guys, but you all should realize that there IS life outside of RRM and RIPPMODDS....

I do recognize that they do make great products for our cars, but sometimes there is more to be learned from researching it yourself, doing it yourself, test fitting it yourself, and charting the pioneer path. Sometimes you have to look outside of the box. Any moron can buy a "kit" out of a parts catalog.... original thoughts and the willingness to try to live outside of the typical F&F ricer boy world, and try something new, and / or alternative, is what gains you respect.

Once again, I am not knocking RRM or RIPPModds or any of these boys, as they do make excellent products... I am just saying.

i agree with what you say about stepping out of the box and thats a cool idea and all, but like PGMike said earlier, not all of us know enough about turbo's to just go out and guess what we need, yes we can do research, and yes a monkey can order a kit from RRM, but for me, I am going RRM so I can learn about turbo's and how to install it myself and so forth, and then once i get rid of my lancer in 5 or 6 years, if not less, I will have gained knowledge to do that "custom" job myself.

Thus that is why I feel RRM is around, as stepping stones for us who dont know everything about cars, or dont have all the time in the world to do our homework before we go turbo but want to stick with something fast, realitivly cheap ( for a turbo i would assume ) and will not blow up our car the first time we go WOT.
