Quick Question for Turbo Automatic Guys
Quick Question for Turbo Automatic Guys
Hey, for my job, i travel on the highway, like im sure most of you do. SO, i noticed today and yesterday that when im on the highway traveling about 80-85mph my rpms stay reved up around 3000-3400 it seems. This is normal im sure becaucse well, its only a 4 speed automatic haha.
But my question is, when i got turbo, and the boost starts at like 3000RPM's will this affect anything or like make me constantly keep like gaining speed/use more fuel and so forth?
Just let me know what you guys experience.
Thanks
~Mike

Your not thinking of it correctly... the boost is controlled more by exhaust output. When your cruising your intake is closed off since your barely pushing on the pedal... this means your not flowing that much exhaust and the turbo isn't spooling. Usually your mpg is improved over stock while cruising as your car runs more efficiently with a turbo. The reasoon 3k rpms is stated for boosting is that is where, if you floor it, you'll be making your peak boost. If your flooring it your intake of fuel and air is at its max so your exhaust gases/pressure is also at its max. Does this make sense to you??
I know you've been researching SC's and Turbo's. This statement is basically the same for SC's as when your easy on the gas the SC's bypass vlv is open and your not making boost. The only difference is a SC, especially on a 4cyl, does take away some mpg due to the load it places on the motor. It's not to bad but it does.
