Pioneer head unit brightness

Hi All

Just fitted a Pioneer DEH-8650MP head unit to my lancer (asian versions of an 8600). Sounds great with my JL splits, 2 ways and pioneer sub

Problem: I can dim the screen, but i can't dim the blue lights behind the buttons. Anyone know of a mod that allows you to dim these lights?

I'm not sure how it workds, but would it be possible to put a resistor or something on the 'illumination' wire that goes into the head unit to reduce the currnet going in so the lights don't get as much power and aren't so bright?

Anyone know of any other tricks that let you dim a head unit??

cheers

Uh...k...

The rear illumination of the buttons is done by LED's...and if you don't know that changing the resistance of LEDs is _supposed to_ change the color of them (unless there's a filter on them).

I'd learn to live with it.

rip the ront apart, and find a surface mount resistor, break the lead that handles those particular LEDs on the circuit board and solder in a resistor in series.

um, try checking to see if you have an interior lighting wire or headlight wiring wire that wasn't hooked up. usually there is a wire that when it recieves current, the led's and screen will dim. sometimes, if a harness is not used, then someone might miss hooking up that wire. i would check that first before ripping apart the entire deck.

hmm . . thanks for that i did hook that wire up (called 'illumination' i think) . . . i turned on 'dim' on the headunit, and it dims the screen when the headlights go on, though I'm not sure about the LED's . . . . i will investigate firther tonight and report back . . thanks for the idea though !!

i don't think i'll be ripping apart the entire deck .. . i'll learn to live with it if i can't do it otherwise
