Need Stereo Help....

i have an '03 evo with an aftermarket stereo. my mids and highs are perfect but i need some help with the subs. i have been through a couple of set ups and still not satisfied. first i had 2 jl audio 12s in a sealed box in the spare tire area firing up. this did not sound good at all and i was told that adding dynomat to the trunk lid would help. i did not end up doing this and instead got one mtx 9500 12 in the spare tire area firing diagonally back(sub is tilted up). this has not sounded so good either.

now im thinking about taking the enclosure out of the spare tire well and just getting either one 12 ported or 2 12s sealed (maybe 2 10s ported). my amp is a mtx 1501d (750w x1 at 4ohm, 1500w x1 at 1 ohm). the 12s i want to use are one adire audio brahma ported or 2 kicker L7s sealed. i want to make the box portable, where i can remove it if needed so i will more than likely fire the subs back towards the trunk. i have a rear strut bar, which is making it hard to come up with a custom set up. i want sound quality as well as spl. i mostly listen to rap so something that hits low would be nice. are there any other subs you guys would recommend? what set up would be the best? please post helpful information. thanks!

well if you are looking for low, hard hitting bass, you will probably want a slot ported box. That amp is massive though. So finding one twelve or two twelves that will be portable is going to be tough....

what size wiring do you have on that amp and do you have any caps..

The reason I ask about the wiring is because that amp should be only ran with 1/0 gauge wire with at least a 2 farad cap. I just installed that same amp with 1/0 gauge wiring, two 1.5 farad caps, and 3 mtx 7500 subs in a tri sealed box in a lancer...sounded really clean but it would pound hard if you wanted it to.

So i guess it all depends on how much space you want to loose in your trunk...

You say it doesn't sound good, could you explain more? What are you looking for, a good all around SQ sound or obnoxious bass you can hear down the street. Subs for the most part are non directional so it shouldn't matter where you put them in your trunk as long as they're not firing directly into something to muffel it. I have 2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 10's in a glassed box in the wheel well. If it sounds like alot of vibration is what you're getting, Deffinetly use dynamat. Also put some behind your license plate, those always rattle. You can also spray the wheel well with truck bed liner or undercoating, which helps cut down on rattels. with the lancers having a huge trunk lid you'll get a ton of rattels so I'd try the dynamat and check your SQ, you'd be surprised what a difference it make. It cuts out outside noise while keeping your sound in. In my USACi Comp Eclipse I had I used over 145 sq ft of dynamat. There wasn't anything in the car that wasn't covered, but it adds weight so in my EVO I just tured it up to my normal listening level and listened in the back and added it where it was needed.

As far as subs to reccomend, let me know what kind of sound SQ or SPL you're looking far and a price range you want to stay in and I should be able to give you some good options.

I am using the right wiring with a 1 farad cap. my lights flicker right now when i turn it up, i think its because of my buschur racing mini battery. now this is the second part of my problem, should i get a second battery (either optima red or yellow top) or just get a 5 farad or more alumapro cap? i dont want all of my trunk room taken up, atleast something i can take out or just do another spart tire set up.

i am looking for loud, clean bass (where you can hear it down the street, but it still sounds clean and hits accurately). i have dynamat in the spare tire area
already. price range is pretty open, just need something that can put my amp in good use. i used to have 2 9500 12s in a ported box also, this sounded the best and hit very hard, but it took too much trunk room up and weighed too much also. how do you like your set up so far? any pics? did you dynamat tge trunk lid? im trying to save as much weight as possible also, but i really like the sound of an aftermarket system, which is why i dont want to just take it all out.
