Need help with my stereo set up....

currently i have 2 12" boston acoustic g5 subs with 2 12" gtr passive radiators running off a mtx 1501D in the spare tire well firing up. im not satisfied with the spl and want something louder. im thinking about taking them out of the spare tire well and removing my rear strut bar and then make a box where the subs can fire towards the rear of the car. would this make a big difference in sound? my other option is to get one 12w7 and port it. which set up would be the loudest? other ideas would also be appreciated. thanks!

here is what my set up looks like right now...

***if you choose "other" in the poll PLEASE post what you would recommend***

Get rid of the passive radiators for SPL applications. Going from 2 sibs to a single sub won't make a drastic difference, you'll proably lose output since the W7 probably doesn't have double the excursion of the subs you already have.

How much "SPL" are you looking to get? Two G5 subs off that amp should be plenty darn loud.

do you guys think that the way the enclosure is set up is the reason for the lack of spl? would it be a big difference firing the subs towards the rear of the car?

It's gotta be something with the enclosure design or placement. Maybe go to Circuit City or Best Buy (or order from Crutchfield) and buy one of those pre-fabbed 12" boxes that holds 2 subs. Try it out to get a feel if it sounds louder/better than your current set up. Then return the box and get your money back (I don't recommend using one of those crappy enclosures for nice subs like the G5). Then you'll know and you won't be out any money...at least until you have to build/buy a new enclosure.

cant because the box would be larger than the space available

Do 1 type-r 12" in a properly ported box (pm me for proper design for this sub most use a generic method I have extensive experience with this specific sub and know what it likes for optimal performance) I guarantee it will be louder than what you have now...

A single ported sub can be louder than a pair of subs if you want to play the only the peak note at the port tuning frequency. It will not be better listening to music.

Next, output is pressure and no matter where you put your subs they will move the same amount of air and build the same pressure in your semi sealed car interior. But.....Due to the wavelength of sub frequencies (>15 feet) there is a great deal of reflection in the car. sound waves couple or cancel and you may have standing waves at the location of your ears reducing percieved volume. The fact that you have 2 subs pressurizing and 2 radiators pressurizing makes phase problems and cancellation likely. The tradeoff is probably pretty smooth low end output.

You can try to swap the phase (+ and - speaker leads at the amp) and see what that does at the listening position. A sealed box is probably the best all around performer and much more relaible without a prooperly tuned subsonic filter.

You're wrong, that is why I had one of the most musical setups anyone had ever heard.... I peaked at 38hz so I could play almost anything with great output so if you would really like to put paper results up against real world results we can...

If you have 4.5 net cuft available two type-r 12's would be louder than you could ever imagine

I'm sure if you ask thecyb he will remember what team phat hertz was able to do with Type-R's in MECA

Right former audio competitor vs someone that thinks they know what they are doing... I know nothing.

Next time you try to insult me make sure you spell everything properly otherwise it makes you look like just as much of an *** as you are trying to make me.

A former car audio competitor of course has no knowledge of real world acoustics . What a formula says and what actually happens in a vehicular atmosphere are two different things...

If he wants to be louder he needs to port and if he doesn't have a minimum of 2cuft net per sub then he shouldn't waste his time. I know plenty of installers such as yourself that think they know everything there is to know when in reality they know as little as one that works for circuit city or best buy...

Just because you know manufacture specs and how to install something doesn't mean you know how to do it properly

well i got 2cf sealed now, if i change the set up to have the subs firing back towards the rear of the car, im open to as much airspace as long as i can take the box out. i figured 2cf is as much as i can go in order to be able to take the box out, so thats why im asking if 1 12 ported (whether a 12w7 or anything that would be best with the 1501D) is better than the 2 sealed. im open to suggestions and appreciate everyone's help, i really want to create the best and loudest set up that can be removed.
