Question Mtx?

alright this is my problem. i have two MTX thunders 12". and a ported box. the box doesn't fit in the trunk. question? Should i just use one sub, and get a new box? sould i get two smaller single boxes and put them next to each other? or should i just make a custom box, which might restrict the air that is recommened for the subs?

change the box to sealed, but keep within manufacturers specs for a sealed enclosure.

if the ported box is too big, then yes. make 1 new box that is sealed for both subs. make it the smallest recommended size. sealed will sound better in your trunk anyways.

edit: ported box enclosure is always larger than sealed box enclosure.

Gotta disagree with the smallest size thing Cup. I'd reccomend that the box be built about .25 - .5 cuft larger than manufacturers spec. While it won't have much effect on power handling or resistance across the powerband, it will have a great deal of effect on the accoustic suspension dynamics. The sub will be louder at lower frequencies, plain and simple.

this is true, but he's having space issues. i thought better safe than sorry. should have said "build it to the smallest specs that will still fit in your trunk" or something like that. it would suck if he builds a new box and it STILL doesn't fit.

i would have to agree with you on that one Cup. right now i have the two 12" in a bandpass box. first of all i don't like bandpass boxes, but it was free so i'm not complaining, and the thing is frickin huge. i can't even get the box to fit in the trunk lid.

Im guessin that the box you have now if pre-made....it wasnt made special for your subs, just made to make them work....look on the internet and find the recommended size of the box and make your own, once u know howmany cubes to make it you can also download a box makin program so you can find out how big it must be so u can still match the cubes and also fit it in ur vehicle.

I had a huge bandpass that was in my Eclipse, when i transferred it to the Lancer, i had to remove all rear seating and go in through tha back. It was a pain, but well worth it, the box fit so perfect and the only way its gonna get stolen is if the theif wants to pull apart my seating first.
