Where do you live, and maybe I can help. I have JL XR in the rear and Diamond Audio in the front. 6.5" in the door, 5.25" in the kick, and 1" in the A-pillar. I HAD Alpine type-S in the front, but they did not seem full or warm, kinda shallow sounding IMO. First thing I did was just a 6.5" swap and listened, then the tweeters, and listened. It was a HUGE improvement. Then I added a E4300 JL amp, and WHOA! I wanted even more so I got a set of Diamond Audio 5.25" mid-ranges and had another set of kicks fabbed up. My front stage kills!! I only have a single 10" Eclipse titanium sub in a ported enclosue in back. Poor sub, it can't keep up with the front. I need to upgrade that, but I'd stay away from the Type-S.

I like JL Audio for the money I have a friend who is selling a set of ZR650csi seperates 6.5 midbass tweeters and crossovers new in the box for $550.00. If I had the money I would have these in my car.

Again, and MOST IMPORTANT, listening to set a of speakers on a sound board will not do a set justice. You have to ask the people what kind they have in there car, or listen to what other Lancer/EVO folks have.

I opted for the Boston Acoustic S55's. I'll let you all know how they sound!

speakers

I work for Crutchfield and I have had the ability to audition the BA, Infinity, Polk, Alpine, and the MB Quart side by side and I ended up with a set of the Infinity Kappa's . None of the speakers sounded bad by any means but the BA have a very bright tweeter which is great if you like that kind of thing for me it was not the right choice as I would prefer to keep my eardrums intact for a few years. The Polk was a great all around speaker and had a great bass response without the overpowering treble that comes with the hard dome tweeters, The MB Quart sounded nice but for the price for the performance I was not impressed. Keep in mind that everyone has a different opinion when it comes to how they want their sound system to perform.
Whatever you do make sure that you dynamat the panels that the speakers are placed into whether it be the doors or the rear deck it will definately increase the performance of the speakers. You do not have to buy the dynamat by name I actually bought peel and seal in the roofing department @ Lowes for about 10% of the cost of dynamat extreme and it works great.
